North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Nevermind social services like police and fire departments. Property taxes which pays for community and social services…

Banks participate in socialism by loaning deposits out to other people.

As long as a certain class of people benefit the most or the amount they kick in is insignificant, they don’t care. I just wish people would stop throwing that word around because it really makes them sound dumb.

The wealthy/elite finesse the working class into thinking socialism is evil, because it’s designed specifically to benefit the working class

Socialism isn't stable long term. It would only be a matter of time before someone wants more and attempts to overthrow it.
Lol you think capitalism is stable? Its literally destroying the planet and may drive us to extinction. Socialism is the only way we're going find our way out of this mess.

The problem with labels is that it's too all-encompassing. Every economic system that a society uses should be flexible enough to incorporate the best facets of each system available, and each facet should be incorporated to the necessary intensity that is appropriate for the society & populace of its time.

If you identify as a capitalist, fine. You should also want proper regulations to minimize corruption, zero types of -isms (race, gender, age, etc) so that a meritocracy where you hire the best for the job is ensured. You should also want employees to be paid livable wages, and those wages should be determined by the value and work ethic you bring to the company. Is everyone gonna live high off the hog? Hell no, but if you put in an honest 40 hour work week, you should be able to at least afford shelter, food, and clothing at the very least. Lastly, you should also be for workers' right along with governmental safety nets for people in vulnerable positions because not one of us is either perfect nor clairvoyant. You could be owner today, lose everything tomorrow, and be an entry level worker next week. Assistance should be available in some form as you attempt to pick up the pieces and get your life back on track if you plunge into poverty during the interim.

Now if you lean more towards the socialist / communist side you should want some form of capitalism because ownership of your destiny is the most unalienable right a human can ask for. You should want to be paid commensurate with your abilities because we all ain't created equal and if your load ain't as big as mine, our compensation should reflect that. Animals that are equipped to find food better eat better. Last I checked, humans are animals too. You shouldn't have a problem with some of your taxes helping the impoverished, but you should be out for blood if you find out people are trying to scam social welfare programs to get rich off the sweat of your brow when they're not lifting a damn thing alll day but the remote control. And of course all of us should be against a government who collects and re-distributes earnings because tyranny is a motherfukker. If I have to elaborate more on that last point to an adult, well you're already at a disadvantage in life and are exactly the type of useful idiot that politicians crave to exert more power over the people.

Here's where every last one of these economic systems go wrong, and they have no choice but to do this: they entrust the goodness of individual humans. You hope the capitalist isn't going to exploit the people the same way that you hope the governments won't live really well off of the collected wages and redistribute the wealth in such a way that you've got a full time job while still living in a toilet bowl. People are gonna be people, however, and since people have corruptible natures, what you get is what you get. Until we get leadership that cares about society in a selfless manner, until we stop all of the unnecessary hate and realize a human is a human and we are all generally the same basic thing, until you as an individual is determined to forego any evils within you and stop making crappy decisions when you have the time to think it through and stop being a selfish little drone with zero ability to think critically, until we have the ability to collectively care for one another and do away with hurting each other...

What we see and what we have is what we'll get. Everyone thinking they have the answer, everyone thinking that blanket definitions are the wave, and everyone trying to one up the other in an attempt to unwittingly be the next meal of the machine. So if you're the type who wants a better tomorrow but seeks to achieve it through promoting some inflexible system that you read about and it sounds great because of the "grass is greener" phenomenon and because it childishly promises to deliver humans an impossible utopia, and you're so into this system that you reply to your skeptics with an air of "holier / smarter than thou" pompousity, please do the rest of us a favor and...

GO FUKK YOURSELF. PREFERABLY TO DEATH.

Well classically socialism is where the means of production are owned by the people as a whole, privatization is limited/nonexistent. And because socialism is a form of government as well as an economic system, ideally a socialist program would be owned by the people who democratically have the government manage said program(s).

That doesn’t really exist in the United States. Damn near everything is privatized. We do have very limited social safety nets here though in the form of Medicare, Medicaid etc.

The United States first needs an expanded welfare capitalist state to even get to that next step of socialism. I’m new to all this stuff admittedly so if someone more knowledgeable wants to correct me go ahead but that how I currently understand the idea.
