people who say driving is easy are the worst, there's nothing easy about it from a new learners perspective

Driving is fun, been doing it since I was 17. Once you get the hang of it you'll be fine.

The best thing my parents did was pay for driving lessons. I got a rough, chain smoking, ex-military, older black woman who loved to cuss. She was exactly what I needed. She was not for the bs and forced my shy timid @ss to not be scared of the road. I wish I could find her; I'd definitely buy her a pack of cigs and have a drink with her lol

Yea I went to driving school before my folks would get in the car with me

After that they let me practice with them lol

I got a perfect score on my driving test, but was still too nervous to drive alone for a few weeks. Then one day I was like “f this” and got in the car and never looked back.


Then my boyfriend got me comfortable on the road and after that I was a beast lol

If youve ever played video games or arcade games where you drive. Its essentially a piece of cake to drive at 40 miles an hour as opposed to 80-100


Also you get a better idea of street layouts,merging etc. Obviously its not the same as being in a real car in real danger. But I believe i was seeing alot less,because I wasnt seeing it for the first time. The worst thing for a new driver is seeing too many things at once,which forces you to overthink,panic. You end up missing simple things like a red light or a stop sign lol.

I agree. I had one of those Needs for Speed games with the actual wheel and pedals back in the day. My friend let me drive on the highway in the middle of DC traffic. He said, "If you can get us back to the barracks in one piece, you're good to go." Surviving that gave me all the confidence in the world.

Learned how to drive cars at like 12-13

At 13 my big cousins had me going to the store for them, I guess it is a different story for everybody.

Same story for me. I learned at that age driving big Buicks & Caddys. Then i upgraded to one of my uncle's Camaro

I'm & these younger NYC gens are different, but growing up everyone i knew couldn't wait to get a permit to show off.

I passed both written and road my first try. My dad was so shocked because he didn't think I was serious about driving lol. She took me on all the routes they may take me on so no matter which one, I'd pass it. My only pet peeve is bumper to bumper traffic. That ruins driving for me.

Yeah once you get comfortable, it's over. My friends have always said if we get into some stuff I'm the get away driver lol

I failed the driving portion of Drivers Ed three times, but passed the test portion.

I got bad nerves, people in Koalabama drive like Twisted Metal, and Lyft is the army.

Some people truly don't belong on the road because they can't process driving. They can't process speed, space, and anticipation all at once. Anticipation being the biggest one. Anticipating what other drivers around you could possibly do to ram into you is lost on some people.

Driving isn't as difficult as people make it out to be, but it does take a lot more attention than what people give it. You should be looking in your mirrors constantly, and aware of your positioning on the road in relation to other cars, exits, turns, etc. A lot of people also drive outside of the parameters of the car in bad or changing weather conditions. The car needs to become an extension of yourself.

Facts.

Limit where I was at varied between 25-55, but I was ultimately in a nice pocket at 40. Full control, everything was smooth and being in the dark was actually significantly better than light. I was able to zero in with less distractions and feel a hell of a lot more confident today than I did yesterday.....I'm still glad I don't gotta think about needing to drive till Tuesday though lol.

To my man that said he gets mad at his girl calling him, I could see that. I can't even listen to music in the car at this point and I thought I'd look forward to that the most. I'm laser focused and any external sounds piss me off.

Driving is "easy" because the vast majority of people learn to drive quite young, a lot of people start messing around with cars in their teenager years. Most of the practical stuff you do at that age will seem "easy" to you because 1. Our whole brain and body is still geared towards learning and basically is a sponge 2. we are still naive and don't give a fukk enough to not be scared about anything, especially not something that seems cool and offers more independence. There's a reason it's easier to learn languages when you're young, or for the saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". Obviously there are outliers.

Its one of the reasons I didn't get my license until I was 18. I use to HATE driving. I'd have night terrors about it. My parents had to FORCE me to get my drivers license. I literally sat in the DMV, with tears in my eyes, at the thought of having to operate one of these death traps. My father tried to teach me how to drive a stick. I missed one of the gears, or something, and the car started to shake. I remember I started screaming!!! He made me switch positions and drove me back home. Even to this day I am sometimes TERRIFIED of driving on the highway. I say a little prayer, and squeeze my stress ball before getting on the highway. The first time I drove on the highway, by myself, I had to pull over and breathe into a paper bag. I got so lightheaded, I thought I was going to pass out. Its a lot easier, these days, and sometimes I even enjoy driving, but I'm still sometimes a bit jittery when it comes to getting on the road. My goodness, it feels good to type this all out!!!
