It's funny how anti-hip hop people are essentially saying black people are inherently morons and being controlled by entertainment.

Because if said music was powerful enough to control one aspect of the population, why aren't the exact same effects being seen on other communities? They are occurring, but not for the band-aid, throwaway reason of blaming hip-hop.

It's funny how if you just ignore contemporary culture, history, particular music history pertaining black music and cherry pick your arguments this absurd notion would make sense. :mjlol:

You're an alarmist that makes generalizations based on either personal anecdotes, second hand information, hysteria or from people with obvious agendas at hand.

To keep it short, don't start this argument and embarrass yourself. Don't do that.

Blaming rap music for everything neglects the effects of systemic racism and poverty, which has been causing high crime rates in the black community long before rap music existed.

The content of the music is just a symptom, not the problem. Music doesn't make anyone do anything: Life situations do.
Hell, the vast majority of rap's consumers are suburban white kids, and they aren't acting like their favorite rapper in real life :mjlol:

Blaming Hip-Hop is a smart-dumb copout for problems that stem from much more deep-rooted and serious issues.

If images on television can influence popular culture, wouldn't you think music can as well? If a child is listening to repetitious messages about killing other black men, selling drugs, engaging in promiscuous sex it will definitely have a detrimental impact on his/her psyche. Throughout American history, media has been used to distort the perception of black people. Knowing this, why wouldn't media (in the form of music) be used to distort the perception that blacks have of themselves? And who better to target than an impressionable child. This so called "music" is in fact propaganda and is just another facet of white supremacy.

You can deny it all you want to but it is getting more and more obvious as time goes on. The only real question is when will more black parents step up and denounce this poison being marketed towards our youth. If the same message was being marketed to whites (or any other people) it would be a big problem. Imagine 30 + year old white males singing about glorifying killing their own and selling/taking dope and it being marketed to white children SMH.

Popular culture and television are not always mutually connected. That's why you saw an explosion of blaxplotation movies in the 70's, that's why you had an abundance of white teen focused movies in the 80's-90's. That's why in the 90's talk shows were so quick to grab transgender people, club kids, ravers, neo-nazi's, gang members etc. because these elements of society existed WITHOUT there being a "push" by media.

And you say media, like it's all still controlled, under one roof when it isn't. Especially with music. In fact music is the one proponent of entertainment that people themselves had much more of influence on because the availability to produce said content and their environment which probably had the greater molding on themselves and their expression that they deem worthy of creating and putting money behind, and in some case an entire community.

It's not a matter of denying (because you're implying that you're right from the jump, as am I), it's just seeing the argument from different perspectives and situations, and not always a+ b = c rationalization that's so abundant on this site
