I've been searching forever and haven't been able to find it, but I remember reading a piece on Chip Engelland where he said something along the lines of, you don't want to be dogmatic about shooting form - lots of great shooters have unorthodox form - but there are certain fundamentals that you need in order to have consistent success from night to night.
Just right off the bat, you want to keep your elbow in, which brings the ball over the top, and now it's just a matter of whether it's short or long. But with Lonzo, it's coming in all over the place. Not only that, but you can see on his floater, which isn't so much about mechanics as basic touch and hand-eye coordination, that he's really lacking in those areas as he lays bricks on those, too.
I don't know ... I'm definitely more of a pessimist, but I don't see how anyone can drop platitudes about this. Dude is off to one of the worst shooting starts in the entire history of the NBA, compounded with third-grade shooting mechanics that should have been addressed years ago. (Like Dell Curry made Steph do when he was a kid, even though he was making shots, because Dad knew bad form would hurt him long term.) And now it's just going to weigh on him mentally with each bad game.
It's too bad given that, otherwise, he's got a really nice game.
