PG position is one of the few that has increased noticeably in talent. I think PG and SF are the deepest positions in the league. Everybody talks about how Centers have fallen off, and now PF's are falling off, but PG's have gotten alot better.

The 90's had great PG's, of course, but the current crop of PG's is nuts. Even the ones who don't really play standard PG like Curry, Westbrook, Rose.

i'll take the quality of the 90's PG over the quantity of today's PG's.

Also some "PGs" today are really SG's playing the point. Russy comes to mind, some people say it about mvp d rose but that's horseshyt with him

The last 20 NBA title winners and their starting PGs -

Mario Chalmers 2x
Jason Kidd
Derek Fisher 2x
Rajon Rondo
Tony Parker
Jason Williams
Tony Parker
Chauncey Billups
Tony Parker
Derek Fisher 2x (Brian Shaw/Lindsey Hunter split time as well)
Ron Harper
Avery Johnson
Ron Harper 3x
Kenny Smith 2x

:scusthov:

There isn't a single player there that was "Top 10" in the league when their team won the title, PGs just aren't required to win titles. I like Steph Curry, mainly because he's sitting on a contract that isn't maxed out, when I hear about someone giving CP3 a max contract I'm just like "Why?".
You wouldnt give the max to Rose or CP3 ? :usure:

fukk that, PG position is better now. What young All-Star bigs are going to make noise in the future? Drummond looks like the only one.

Today's PG's would do the 90's pG's exactly what AI DID.

You have to remember the 90's PG, for the most part weren't score first and were actually PG's. Today due to the game being different they're more score first, so it looks like their better but in actuality their not.

Also the rules favoring perimeter players makes their games overall easier as their essentially able to do what they want without much stress before they get in the paint

Do you just reflexively believes everything from the 90's was better? The overall talent level at PG is nuts right now. List all the top players under 30 years old. You'll see a very consistent pattern.

It's an overrated position to be honest and I'd never build my team around a PG that wants a max contract.

:blessed:

I been saying this for years:salute:

Since the Finals MVP has been given out, only 4 PGs have won it (with Magic Johnson winning it 3 times).

And Magic was 6'9...not really as PG size, but for the sake of argument:manny:

Big Men > Wing Men > PGs

Tinsley can keep his one flashy dribble move having ass outta any discussion of top pgs, always hated that nikka and am surprised hes still in the league.

Mark Jackson was a ill pg in his time, entertaining as hell and I didnt appriciate him when I was younger.

I think most of these pgs are really converted SG's anyways. But the game is just evolving into a game where there are bigs and smalls. All these dudes play exactly the same( or try to) but you have to list and play them at the positions for matchup puproses.

Comparing pgs of this era to any other era isnt a good look in my book, its just a different game.

I'm with @Malta on point guards. Unless you have a player that has size and is special (like backing down points in the post, can defend either guard position, can score and distribute, great help defender, etc) you really should not build a team around the point guard.

In saying that, and this is real homerish, I think John Wall could be that player from a talent perspective.

like i said there's more talent now (quantity) but i'll take the quaity of the 90s point guard over them. You have to also remember the rules being changed to benefit these players make their numbers look better then what they should be

Current PG's are better. And jason kidd is a 00's PG

The position as a whole is vastly overrated. The only PG id ever build my team around is magic and I wouldn't take him over a Kareem,Hakeem,Shaq or a Kobe/Jordan/Lebron
