Only music genre that discourage OG's from making music :mjcry:

That falls on everybody: artists, promoters and fans themselves. The demand is there from the fans, but they can't do it by themselves. The promoters are going to say the demand isn't there, and as things are now they're partially right...because the artists make the content, and they're led by the nose by the labels. You make the right content for the fans to take their kids to music festivals, so it can be a shared experience where generations can pass on the vibes to the next...that's forever money.

Nobody wants to be the first to step up and set up the infrastructure; everybody's chasing a short-term bag.

In hindsight, Pharoahe has had a lot of commercial looks. Simon Says became a mainstream hit out of nowhere, Oh No and My Life got tons of airplay as well. Aesthetic wise, he could've been to Hip Hop what D'angelo or Bilal is to R&B if that makes sense.

He had a huge buzz after Internal Affairs and Oh No and people were highly anticipating what came next.
By the time Desire came out like 8 years later everyone had moved on and he has never come close to that level of success since.
Can’t think of many other artists who just disappeared at their peak.

I think it's a label thing. Marketing dollars and what not.

Truth.

I think the issues with being sued for "Simon Says" kinda derailed his career path a little. Both musically and mentally. He said the sample wasn't cleared, so they ended up taking all of the money from it and more. Years later, I think he said he had to move back in with his mom and didn't have any health insurance. So Rawkus did him dirty with not getting that cleared. I always said that situation f*cked him up.

Honestly this could be a great look in developing a black "rock" division cuz Monch does a lot of rock/metal inspired projects.
Not a big market but a dedicated niche market that buys tickets, merch and crushes Euro venues.

Monch is my guy but I wrote a piece on here a couple years ago when people were saying Jaz was signed to Roc Nation and he was not. Unless there is something official about RN management then it’s not. Looks like he is with EQ Distribution like Jaz-O was (he no longer is). Which is a company owned by RN. If he is under RN management that is great though, but just because he is sitting in front of the paper plane doesn’t confirm that.

This is true too.

A lot of artists go up there for meetings and just take pics in front of the sign. Most of which aren't even inked up with RN. So you never really know unless there's an official statement made.
