And how the fukk would you know that? Stop putting words in the man's mouth. He's talking about not letting "blackness" stop you from achieving your goals and i'm totally for that. But he negated the fact that most of the reasons why "blackness" could stop you have NOTHING to do with you. It's not a matter of blame. shyt has been set up for the better part of SIX-HUNDRED YEARS to keep people of African decent subjugated on this side of the planet. Talent or not, those are hurdles that still stand to this day and only a fool would not at least acknowledge that they are there even if they are only ankle high for some.

Race fades away the more money/prestige you make simple as that. You think Arabs and Bebers were trying to hate on Mansa Munsa when he was throwing gold everywhere? Nope, so his views on race were perhaps similar to Pharell's.

Dawg, you ain't gonna change shyt by repeating this.

We all knows this already.

They're not just going to GIVE it to you anyways, so what the hell is your point?

Thats my argument.

NO ONE is disagreeing with this, but the REALITY is that we MUST BE WILLING TO WORK HARDER.

Period

shyt just aint gonna be easier when you wake up tomorrow.

dude stfu just making a fukkin comparision
nah. you were being butt hurt is the problem.

"b-b-b-but the jews do it! :to:"

:camby:

man up and claim yours. Stop asking for others to give it to you.

That starts at home with you. Right now.

if you wake up tomorrow and find yourself being apart of the same crowd you think needs improvement, then this is your fault.

I'm not fighting and working this hard so I can associate with underperforming folks. Straight up.

I cant bring everyone with me.

man i got in an argument with my sister over this.

She tried to intellectualize this shyt and i'm like... man whatever. LOOK AT YOU. You're a college grad and masters student and you're worried about what P thinks about black identity?

You lost for doing that in the first place :pachaha:

Even further, thats not what he was saying. Mind you, Pharrell is one of THE musical leaders in terms of the evolution of black identity along with Kanye and Andre 3K in this century...OF COURSE he knows what the black struggle is like.

But it does raise a good point. No one is saying to forget anything, but HOW MUCH of this is "white people's" fault?

Are we gonna keep saying this in 10 years? 20? 30?

If you keep talking like you're an underclass, you'll always BE an underclass.

Pharrell is just the typical Joe who is quick to judge, slow to help.

I guess he is commenting on social issues because he had to cop pleas about his Girl LP cover.

We still know where his heart is at. :mjpls:

Breh, this was the first that I even saw of this. I have never cared about the comments of celebrities. But again, I think how in touch can some one like Pharrel really be? Dude has been rich for the better part of 20+ years, has had access to SO much. Even Kanye, how much is he really in touch with the shyt in Chi-Raq? They can come down and make record with these cats, but how much are they invested in their future and well being? They can't do it alone, i know. But lets not act like Pharrel and 3 stacks and the sort are experts in the current black experience.

They have done a lot to help the identity, you are right. But these kind of comments coming from someone that people WOULD really listen to could be detrimental. Not to take the onus off the individual, because trust me i'm critical of the young black men who kill other young black men for bull shyt like music. We MUST somehow end THAT cycle first and make entrepreneurship, education and learnedness the wave in the black communities. But those who COULD make those images start haven't. :manny:

:smh: U r so wrong

No, no, no...

This is where ya'll are missin' my point.

1. @philmonroe, quick with this black/white (metaphorically) where it's either this:hula: that

This is why I don't like talkin' about complicated subjects on thecoli

Ya'll make everything so simple, like race, when they are complicated subjects

@theworldismine13, no, none of my comments, in this thread, read as "It's white people's fault we are down"

Like I"m trying to get to @philmonroe ; Race isn't as simple as; it's white people's fault for our ills and only they can save us from this horrible situation

I'll try to keep this brief;

This country is about money. Capitalism is it's religion. Every system of discrimination (sexism, racism, xenophobia, etc.) is based on money. America is afraid of women takin' jobs $$$, America is scared of being robbed by Mailk $$$, America is afraid of immigrants comin' and doin' jobs ppl don't even want $$$.

Everything in this country is about money.

Dr. King was seeing it and saw the foundation of our situation was poverty and the lack of economic power.

With that said; ecomonic power = equality in this country.

Racist don't see your skin tone, they see your perceived (sterotypes are the riligion of Capitalism's 10 commandantments poverty).

Racist, sexist & xeonphobes have a lot of money issues mixed with their hatred. I'm digressing...

People like Pharell, don't see racism or race, because he has money, he has fame, he has affluence and most of all, he has people who would love to make money off of him. Of course they have no problem with him.

No, not everyone in his life is a fake snake, lookin' for dough. But, even racist will put their hate aside to make a buck.

You wanna see racism; see that white people are the biggest drug users, but brothers get arrested, charged and sentenced wwwwwaaaayyyy more.

Look at the Republican platform; hey, good clean, Christian white folk; these blacks & Mexicans & Muslims are threatening your way of life--you are on the fast track to being a millionaire :troll:--vote against your own interest...yea, we have anti-poor views, oh, but your goin' be rich someday, so help us empower the rich--that home business is $4,000 a year, but, it'll be $40 million if youo put us in office :troll:

There's 40 million black ppl, in this country...there's 40 MILLION TOTAL POOR WHITE FOLK in the same country.

The media (this religion's preist) tells lies; blacks, Mexicans, women and Muslims are stealing your money...LET US PUNISH EM...

There's so many layers to this and this post is very off hand, but, it's not as simple as "Oh, I'ma do me and not worry about race." THIS METALITY is our problem. Oh, I got a house & job, no black person has a reason to be poor.

Brotha's, read the news. They closing schools in Chicago & Detroit. WHAT IS THE FATE OF THOSE CHILDREN!?!?

Are they supposed to be like; well, this ain't about me being black, Imma do me and keep it pushing???
Honestly this shyt we talking about is a trap to keep people focused on stuff that you can't really change. I can't save every messed up person situation and honestly I'm not trying to because unfortunately that is life. That's the okie doke to keep you from doing anything productive that really could get shyt moving. You speak on money but this stuff on thecoli ain't going to help you, me, or most of us get more let's keep it 100. That's why I feel this is stuff to keep you talking but not really doing nothing really productive. Reciting stats and shyt will not help you get the money you and I agree we need to do anything that's why I'm not much about this talking shyt some like to do. Either do some real work or shyt up with the talking of what needs to done because honestly by now we have more than enough people that know what needs to be done. Now what we going to do talk or get this money and link up with like minded individuals?

Why try complicating basic shyt.

Africa or African is a nationality while at the same time the majority of the continent inhabitants share the same skin color.

You can try making this more complicated than what it is but I would rather you just say that you as a black man prefers to be called nikka instead of African. Do you know the origins of the word nikka and where it derives?

People like you are disconnected from their roots and are caught up in this matrix.

Black is a term used to identify people who share the same genetic makeup as the individuals in Africa.

Who told you, you are black? Who told you, you are African? Do you know the meaning of black? Do you know the origin of the word Africa?
