I still don't get it. Is this another gen or not?
You guys seem to have a tough time understanding what is going on here.

There is no such thing as another "gen" anymore, at least not as drastic as you guys are used to. We will likely see new consoles every 3-4 years from here on out and things will scale across hardware.

My guess is that they will lock software on the OS level now to make things easier for people to understand.

Ok even if it's 3-4 yr cycles. Doesn't mean it can't be labeled another gen. I would dig Scorpio more if they just say it's a new gen altogether. 3 consoles in 4 years :patrice:

They aren't going to focus on the word "gen" as much anymore.

I know technically nvidia and amd put "gen" into their product cycles, but nobody on the PC thinks of them that way. It's just the new nvidia or amd cards...it will be the same on the consoles. New XBOX or New PlayStation...them focusing on establishing hard lines as to what qualifies as a "gen" boxes them into a corner.

My guess is that they are going to lock things on an OS level when it doesn't make sense to update a specific console anymore. I can't imagine the Scorpio and OG XBOX One or PS4/NEO "gen" ending at the same time...why do so when it's not necessary?

I'm guessing you've never played a Win10 store game. X1 games on PC are complete trash.

But to answer your question, I'm mainly getting it for media and streaming. $400 for a 4K Blu-Ray player is a steal, considering it also plays games. 4K Blu-Ray players go for like $400 by themselves. This is a great deal

You must know how BOSS it is to go home and say "XBOX ON" and your whole setup turns on.

That shyt is truly :blessed:
What's wrong with X1 games on PC? Why do they suck? Is Gears 4 going to suck on PC?

Just preordered the 2TB S on Amazon, will preorder the Scorpio too (yeah, I got a 4K TV) :manny:

I'll give my "old," "fat" X1 to my brother. We all win :blessed:
i got a 4k tv as well but im waiting to see if gamestop or best buy hit us with the if you trade in your old xb1 we'll give you half off towards the new xbox one S kinda like they did with the 360 when the X1 came out :wow:

Most definitely yes. They haven't made one good PC game yet for the Win10 store. Read up on it. It's been a complete disaster. And it doesn't appear that M$ gives a shyt, because all the games are still fukked up, don't have AA, don't offer SLI, don't support AMD cards in some cases (:mindblown:) and are horribly optimized.

Oh looky here!

Phil says EXACTLY what I was saying early in that the Scorpio is STILL a viable purchase for 1080P TV owners because there's still going to be some improvements for previous games and some games that may not be 4K

  • No Scorpio exclusives
  • Devs can do 4K, dont have to do 4K, can use power in different ways
  • Previous games may see improvement such as dynamic resolution games staying 1080p
  • Games will look different on 1080p screen, full benefit and image fidelity can only be reaped with a 4KTV for 4K games but it's still a viable purchase for 1080p owners
  • Announcement made for the purpose of transparency, consumers can make an educated purchase if they want to buy the lower range but cheaper Xbox One S or the premium and more powerful Scorpio, developers can work out how they want to adapt the hardware
  • Xbox One S will not play games better than the Xbox One
  • Developers must support the Xbox One as well
  • All existing Xbox One accessories will carry over
  • Upgraded consoles not adapting a smartphone style approach, maybe every 4-5 years and based on whats deemed as a new inflection point of technology (for instance, 4K and VR)
  • 360 backwards compatibility was the starting point of taking a users investment in a system and retaining it, will be the norm from now on

If the man himself, head of Xbox says that devs can "use that power how they want" instead of 4K, wouldn't that OBVIOUSLY mean they can improve the graphics/performance from the base game because idk if this is a revelation to some people but there's way more to a game's graphics than the resolution it renders at. "use power in different ways" aka visual fidelity/performance.

I said this exact same thing here several times in this thread but some of these negropeans wanted to act like because I said it that it was wrong :mjpls:

Now y'all savior Phil says it it's all good huh? :mjpls:
