I miss being a baseball city. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad the birds won the chip but something about having a dope ass baseball team :wow:

Every night on PHL17 was fukkery.

The crowds at CBP were lit every night :whew:

The whole city tuning in for October baseball :ahh:
It was great having the Phillies be good cause like you said shyt was daily, but Sixers on some cult shyt and byrd gang fukkery >>> imo :ttpblessed:

I'm just not as big of a baseball fan anymore tho

Utley hasn't been a good player for a very long time now.
Someone earlier mentioned him as a top 10 2nd baseman...I don't think so. But he was great for a stretch.

Hornsby
Collins
Lajoie
Morgan
Gehringer
Carew
Robinson

Those guys are clearly ahead of him. That's seven.
Then you've got Biggio, Alomar and Whitaker (who I think is underrated).

And then you've gotta figure where he ranks among Cano, Sandberg, Randolph and Kent.
I could see an argument for 10th, but barely.
And by the time Altuve retires, this won't even be a discussion, so....

:manny:

how you gonna leave off Joe Gordon???

The thing that made that Phillies team so special was their most prominent players were of color. Made them so much easier to embrace, seeing nikkas who looked like me doing it big in the majors

The DeMarcus Cousins shyt took the air out of my Sixers enthusiasm, plus BS is way too Hollywood for me to expect him to stay here long term but we’ll see. I hope we don’t end up being the modern version of the Orlando Magic

Did you hit up the eagles joint? I had to work during that smh, the concept of having parades during the week kind of pisses me off
Yeah I went to the Eagles parade... I wasnt missing that
I was on Broad after the game too, best night of my life, had more fun than the parade

Naw, i think Victorino had more love than jRoll. I was in college that year, cacs love that nicca Shane...
Id say as far as fanfare it was:
Chase
Shane
Pat the Bat
Jimmy
Chooch
Jamie Moyer old ass
Hamels
then Howard
Utley was always the favorite, but people forget how many people loved the big piece before he tore his Achilles (and for all purposes ending the era)... its sad philly remembers him after Ruben signed him to that awful extension, but from late 05-11, Ryan Howard was that guy that the city would want to know he was up, and watch intently his every at bat... especially 06-08, I was in college at temple then and no matter what you were doing, you would pay attention to Howard bat

That's very true, as a young boul seeing guys like JRoll and Howard leading was :banderas:

Cousins really doesn't bother me, we're gonna peak when those cats are old anyway. I don't buy into the tabloids with Simmons, media wants controversy, and he'll be a RFA after his contract is up anyway. He can't leave for awhile. Sixers have been shyt on and disrespected so much, seeing them get their payback :ahh: everyone who laughed at The Process, said Hinkie was an idiot, said Embiid was a lazy childish bust who didn't care about the game, said Simmons doesn't care and isn't a winner and just blindly hate him for no reason, hating on Markelle rn, saying Dario would never come over, etc. this team has been through so much watching them win is beautiful :mjcry:

Not even mentioning underdogs coming from nowhere like Covington and TJ :myman:

Agreed 100%. I never seen my dad as engaged in phillies baseball until Ryan showed up...Dude was an enigma and his at bats were always must watch TV during his prime years.

Stat nerds love to rip him for his contract in the latter half of his career but any phillies fan that brings that up can do one. He was a homegrown player who became an mvp and brought a title to the city. Still what a fantastic squad.

I was at Rowan University in '07 and too poor to afford tickets and a car but I literally watched ever single game. shyt teaches you to enjoy it while you can because I don't think we'll be seeing a phillies team like that again.

The whole era was special. That team was all homegrown mixed with castoffs (Victorino rule 5, werth a FA nobody wanted) that whole team had big personalities, great talent, and that’s just represented the city so well. Every person in the city had a person they related to and tiptoed for, no matter who you are..

IM sure every philly person here already knows, but for a non baseball city, it was amazing how much time all of us made to watch that team and those group of guys.... citizens bank Park was sold put every game for 5 years, it was an event, every game

Facts. Everybody and they momma had at least a Phillies name and number tee shirt. Modells and Forman Mills used to make a killing.
