I drive by playgrounds in D.C. and B-More all the time and see empty courts.. It was never like that when I was younger.. But gyms are filled to the brim all spring and summer with AAU teams at every age level, so I guess the game has just evolved to being more organized...

Not where I'm at. I play every Saturday across the street from my house. We usually have about 15 to 20 people there. There's another park down the street that gets 20 to 30 every night.

The biggest reason is kids have people in their ears telling them not to play outside because of their knees. That was the most common reason it seemed at least for the college kids.

That's true...

Society has just changed also.. When I was 8 my mom would send me to the store on my bike for cigarettes or let me leave the house at 9 in the morning and not come back until it was dark.. We were everywhere doing everything.. Hopping on city buses and the whole nine..No cell phones, Amber alerts or nothing.. I couldn't imagine letting my kids loose like that..Everything they do is organized and supervised...

I'll come back to comment later, but I'll say this for now...playground ball went commercial starting back with the And1 mixtapes. That started the decline of the playground ball I grew up with. I mean Rucker Park is a hardwood court now. Think about that.

NEW ERA
Biggest reason for this is the emergence of video games. nikkas rather play 2K then dribble a real ball on a real court. It's just another proponent of the ever increasing obesity problem in America. This generation is lazy as hell. There's more convenience and ease in just staying in and browsing the internet or playing video games all day.

Dyckman is still poppin' though. :manny:

:comeon::rolleyes: i doubt that's the reason.

the gym i do weight training at always has the courts packed with kids and teenagers waiting to get on. access to indoor courts is easier than ever before and it's less strain on the knees, can play year-round and don't have to deal with the hot ass sun killing you. it's just better.

If anything there's a major need for indoor courts in NYC. Not many places to go to when it gets cold.

So kids take advantage of the weather I know one court where it's ALWAYS empty right next to the Deegan on Fordham. That's my personal court on my day off. The problem is that it's a death trap. If someone wanted to murk me they could because there's only one way in.

That and unless your court is sanctioned it doesn't get taken care of.

I grew up in the first Nintendo era. Cats came out to play ball. Don't know what it is now.

Same, we still had to go outside though like you said. Even my friends parents. There was no group of nikkaz sittin playing videogames all day, we had to go outside and shyt even during the hottest part of the day... :laugh:

kids still play. I see em all the time.

I think a lot of this has to do with money and status
