I'll never forget the day when my friend told me I HAD to listen to this awesome new song he downloaded off of Kazaa and WHERE WOULD I BE WITHOUT MY BABYYYYY came blaring out of the speakers. He really thought that shyt was good. He got the face from me. Granted, Ja Rule's career was dwindling by the time he released "Mesmerize". It was a hit but it was definitely the hip hop equivalent of Billy Squier's "Rock Me Tonite" in that it killed whatever small amount of cred he had with me. It might not have killed his career but it definitely, at least, paralyzed it. "Back Down" was the merciful relative who smothered it to death with a pillow.
