Touched down real late from JFK last night so I had a very late day sleeping in. I saw the alert but haven't looked into it or discussed it with my colleagues since I just got up. Unfortunately, I'm going to go see Deadpool 2 right now but I'll pick a showtime that gives me time to look into it. But I'll say this, to crash on takeoff screams a mechanical dept. fukkup. I'm not sure how often Cubana rotates there aircraft daily but I'm pretty sure this was a first flight of the day for it which means something was missed on preflight.

Is it just that we hear about everything now, or are plane incidents a lot more frequent now than they ever used to be?
That's what I'm curious of. I know an acquaintance of mine is was is a former aerospace engineer who's scared shytless of flying because he says many airlines aren't doing the proper maintaince and replacing of aircraft to sustain their fleets. He was telling me this some 4-5 years ago that a lot major airlines are going start having problems because the fleets date back from the 70's / 80's and many companies are cutting corners......

That's just what my homie said. He worked at Lockheed Martin for 10
Years then quit.......

I know @newarkhiphop has some stories from working for TSA. He saw some shyt that would surprise you.

I think @superunknown23 is an aerospace engineer as well and might have some insight.

Cubana doesn’t operate 737’s...so this plane was definitely chartered/leased.

I’m hearin it was a -200/300 which sucks cuz those planes are HELLA old and you would hardly catch em in north america...apart from em LCC, charters and freighters.

So maintence definitely needs to be looked at..and like bonifide said, crash after T/O usually indicates mechanical or perhaps W&B and a shift in the CofG.

Yeah, all those stupid regulations we used to have making airlines perform maintenance. That shyt just slows down business.

The plane was old (the 737-200 was launched in 1971 and I learned its design in college) but it's very reliable when taken care of... Shoddy maintenance and cutting corners to save money will crash ANY plane, no matter how sophisticated or advanced it is. Almost all crashes are caused by mad maintenance, pilot error (very rare) or natural disturbances.
This is a classic example of bad maintenance by an airline trying to save money (in a poor country, no less).
Flying is still the safest way to travel out there by far.
