“FLOCK OF FEATHERFACE! YOU COULDN’T PUT UP A BIGGER CLICKBAIT ARTICLE IF YOU TRIED!”
Whoa! Slow down, babe. E3 is round the corner, this is when speculations run wild. So, why not revel in it? Scalebound producer JP Kellam tweeted IGN’s article which stated that Platinum Games will reveal their next game at E3 2015. What’s interesting is the tweet which says ” It will surprise you. Might even make you cry”.
Just bait? Or is it a clue? Heck even IGN’s article seems to be teasing us in this direction (you can just see it from that smug expression on the dude’s face).
reading too much into things, perhaps?
Well, we can only speculate. Let us try to narrow down our options using the rule of elimination. It’s highly unlikely that the game is a completely new IP because that doesn’t give us any reason to cry, even out of happiness, unless it’s mentioned as an exclusive to some console. It’s most definitely not a Bayonetta sequel since it’s way too early for that. It is possible that it could be a sequel to one of their older games. However, it’s far more enticing to assume it’s a new DMC game.
Now, I wouldn’t be as dense to simply bank on that tweet. Two years ago, it was revealed on the Playstation 3 board of GameFAQs that Hideki Kamiya was open to making a DMC game. It is well known though that he hasn’t moved on from his crush on Dante. Almost all the latest games have a flavour heavily reminiscent of DMC. Heck some of the games /Are/ DMC, just look at Scalebound!
Also, interesting is the fact that both DmC: Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 4 are getting a special edition released for the next-gen consoles (and PC DMC 4’s case). Normally, studios release and HD remaster of games right before their sequels arrive to increase potential customers. This could be no different.
If all of this is revealed to be true, I wonder which version of Devil May Cry will it be? I adore DmC: Devil May Cry but the older franchise seems more in tone with Kamiya’s style. Eitherways, the fan-boy in me would definitely cry if this speculation does turn out to be true. The stars sure seem to be aligning themselves.
Let me know what you guys think about Platinum Games announcing their their next title at E3 2015. Do you think it’s a sequel to the Devil May Cry franchise? Or maybe I’m just playing too much Bloodborne and looking way too much into trivial matters?
