I guess I'd agree, but I understand it more in college because it helps with the trash foul calls taking the best players off the court.
My biggest problem is it doesn't help the players, college coaches don't give a shyt cause the players leaving anyways, why waste time making him a better defender, just play zone.

I know the statement is referring to basketball, but this would apply to football too. Are the legion of boom cowards with their Cover 3? Tampa 2 for cowards?
You do whatever gives your team the best chance at winning games. If that means running zone because you don't have strong man to man defenders or because the other team struggles against the zone, so be it.

Its a dumb statement but its meant to be tongue in cheek. Thing is its harder to play good zone than good man and its harder to teach. Its also harder to play against on the lower levels as the skill is lower (poor shooting on the open looks you get) and its hard to really get an offense to execute well when you need 5 guys on the same page. Coaching youth ball you hate teams that run zone because if the goal is to teach kids how to play the game you don't do that with zone in elementary and middle school. You try to truly teach kids the game and teach defensive fundamentals then you run across some lame having his kids in a 2-3 all game to get some cheap wins. That said I used it too when we only had 6 guys a few times

Not in the modern NBA. It's more complex than that because of the post 04 rule changes. Because guards have such good ball handling and shooting defenses needed a way to help ball side. So you have an extra defender shade over on him and you have the other guys ready to rotate on help. Packing the paint is just a result of that some times.
If you didn't play Zone and let all these guys go 1 on 1 the league would be even more difficult to get into. As it is now if you're too slow to play help defense as a wing or a 4 you're kinda in trouble.
