This year has been great, you have to either improve your gaming diet or realize some good games are not for you. BG3 is on its way to be possible GOTY.

The PS6 is almost 3 years old. The last time I checked, price drops were the norm during a console's life cycle.

We are about 2 years away from the announcement of the PS7.

With the cost of development, the strategy does need to change though. You can understand why developers don't want to abandon the previous generation as the latest generation doesn't have capture the same market. The problem is that it is holding back the quality of the games.
