Honestly, gaming is really only in a shytty place if you actively engage with the fandom. Brehs being concerned over who "won" summer presentation season, or obsessing over imaginary lineups is really fukking up enjoyment of the medium.
I watched the showcase yesterday live, and while there were games that I didn't care about, there was a good variety of stuff that I'd be willing to at least buy for cheap. We have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to options, but most of the people playing the games would rather spend time projecting Metacritic averages, and bullshyt like that.
Most def it will be improvement I just thought we would see some drastic difference. Like an oh shyt moment but gaming is not upward but linear now when it comes to graphics etc..
