Biggest pleasant surprise album I've encountered in recent memory are The evolution of Robin Thicke. Downloaded it on a whim, my only prior exposure to Robin was that God awful single off his first album back in the day with the long hair and bike courier steez. I absolutely hated that song and thought Robin was trash but that album blew my mind.

Another one was Drake's So Far Gone. Downloaded when it first dropped before he had any buzz, and the only prior work I had heard from him was Replacement girl.
