if any of you answered this survey as presented then i must say that you played yourself.

i have gotten into debates over the wording of questions on the phone with people who conduct surveys...they don't like it.

When it was asked "Do you think the elimination of poverty is a legitimate goal of the government?" I took it as "Do you think poverty is something the government cares about and is actively trying to fix?"

So yeah, looking back at it now, I can see how it could be madly misinterpreted.

OP needs to become a journalist.

that "should we raise minimum wage question" has no place in this survey. The way you used it gives me the impression that you are somehow going to attempt to use it as an answer your pollers suggest for alieviating poverty.
