There's no such thing as "pure socialism". There are various types of socialisms, some that still heavily involve markets, some that involve decentralised planning, centralised planning, or a mix (and all of these have different forms and models). That's why you can't just equate socialism to "State ownership of the means of production".

If we agree that the people who currently own the means of production have power, then by turning those means over to the govt will give the govt (more) power
