"Why is it that so many efforts by liberals to lift the black underclass not only fail, but often harm the intended beneficiaries?

In Please Stop Helping Us, Jason L. Riley examines how well-intentioned welfare programs are in fact holding black Americans back. Minimum-wage laws may lift earnings for people who are already employed, but they price a disproportionate number of blacks out of the labor force. Affirmative action in higher education is intended to address past discrimination, but the result is fewer black college graduates than would otherwise exist. And so it goes with everything from soft-on-crime laws, which make black neighborhoods more dangerous, to policies that limit school choice out of a mistaken belief that charter schools and voucher programs harm the traditional public schools that most low-income students attend.
In theory these efforts are intended to help the poor—and poor minorities in particular. In practice they become massive barriers to moving forward.

Please Stop Helping Us lays bare these counterproductive results. People of goodwill want to see more black socioeconomic advancement, but in too many instances the current methods and approaches aren’t working. Acknowledging this is an important first step."

and without it, blacks would still suffer even more

Affirmative action in higher education is intended to address past discrimination, but the result is fewer black college graduates than would otherwise exist.
This isn't even true. Not even slightly.

And so it goes with everything from soft-on-crime laws, which make black neighborhoods more dangerous, to policies that limit school choice out of a mistaken belief that charter schools and voucher programs harm the traditional public schools that most low-income students attend.
How are liberals soft on crime?

We're soft on victimless crime like ridiculous drug laws. Lets not overlook that dumb shyt.

and charter schools are a whole other bag and can't be taken seriously when mixed into this cluster fukk of absurdity.

In theory these efforts are intended to help the poor—and poor minorities in particular. In practice they become massive barriers to moving forward.
Don't tell me about "Helping the poor" with these talking points

You don't have to be a conservative to want to promote community.

The standard conservative tour de force of dishonest talking points, and dressed up white supremacy. I watched around the first 25 minutes, and literally everything he said was bullsht. So racism, with its expressed intent to use power gained and inherited in order to punish and cripple a group is just some excuse blacks "whine" about, but liberal policies designed to at least mollify centuries of racism is the real problem? Racism isnt a pathology that begets more pathologies? I would say thats some incredible cognitive dissonance, but he knows his role is to simply soothe the egos of racist whites and little else, so its not like offering substantive intellectual honesty is any sort of a goal here.

So I take it you are opposed to the idea that we as blacks should help ourselves. Liberal policies clearly haven't worked. Just give it up already.

This is just a clumsy strawman. Wherever you're trying to direct the conversation to is a far cry from the argument presented in the video, which states this undergirding message that black "pathologies" were self-created and self-sustained in house, with things like slavery, jim crow, voter disenfranchisement, economic disfranchisement, etc existing as mere minor speed bumps in the grand scheme of things.

I dont know what these "liberal" policies are, which were designed with the expressed purpose of harming blacks. It seems the idea is a convenient one for conservatives to make, in that they can deflect from their own investment in the degradation of the black spirit and quality of life, while also maintaining social desirability that they indeed do "care" for black people, but, alas, blacks are too dumb and slovenly to realize whats in their best interests so they are easily tricked into subjugation by "liberals".

The I in Team
Starving children in Africa wish they had some "liberals" to feed them.

And instead Liberals donate food that gets hoarded by local militias, and send free shirts and trinkets that put local businessmen out on the street.

You don't have to be a conservative to want to promote community.

And you don't have to be liberal either.

You know what I hate both parties. Neither speak to and for my people. On one hand you have the stereotypical conservative. They lump us as violent thugs with welfare queen mothers who just mooch off society. And it's their job to change that. :stopitslime:

On the other the liberal. Who look at black and brown almost like children, that they need to hold the hand of and give gifts too. Don't think, just vote for us and we'll give you a handout.

Neither group fits me, nor will they ever. You know what we need? Equal playing field. A playing field where Shiniqua's job application isn't passed on because the name is too fukking ethnic. Where an innocent kid is shot dead and cacs don't think 'one less animal'. It's almost cultural at this point. That's why the ones that come from Ghana and Nigeria, that haven't been corrupted by this culture, become successful.

[/end rant]

Sounds like something the late great Harold Cruse would have stated. Check out his book The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual.
