That’s what it is right now.

It’s been heightened since the pandemic. I’m at a bit of crossroads as to whether crime is really up or just being reported more.

I do think it’s the former because it’s like the criminals and jackboys got smarter.

They started targeting bigger fish and the more affluent. So a lot more white people living in the McMansions in the hills are getting got on a the regular.

There’s definitely a bit more of the :mjpls: sentiment in spaces throughout LA.

I’m also not the best representative here for this question because I’m on that lowkey and unassuming well off, swag.

I don’t see them getting tough on crime any time soon either.

I
Nah crime is really up. The reporting hasn’t changed.

2 reasons

1. The pandemic created a backlog in the courts. A lot of these nikkas would’ve been in state prison already but they’re at home on house arrest and bonding out waiting for trial because city jails are too full and they’re still ACTIVE.

2. Schools closing during the pandemic gave these gangs more crash dummies to recruit because even if they ain’t doing shyt in school theyre time is occupied

The system is starting to pick up tho
If SF can vote out a progressive DA, LA and surrounding cities, which has never been as liberal as the Bay, certainly can
HL called me Maga for saying people in real life not trying to hear politicians downplay crime and excuse criminal behavior

People wanna feel safe and no one feels safe when politicians are talking about criminal justice in the form of rehabilitation instead of separated the wolves from society when they’re caught

Yea so honestly that ‘jealous and hate’ excuse is even worse. That’s the bullshyt excuse people give when they want it to seem random. ‘Nipsey died over jealousy’. Yeeaaa, no he didn’t. ‘Dolph died bc people are just jealous’. Mm, no, no that actually wasn’t it.

It’s ironically not much different from the BS excuse the biggest gang—-the United states government—-used. ‘The taliban commits acts of terror bc they hate our freedom’. Yeeea, so it was a lil deeper than that

With each case above it’s deeper than “jealousy” . ‘Jealosuy and hate’ as a motive is just a bullshyt mask that allows people to pretend gangs and street politics aren’t real. And in some cases (not this one) to shield the victim. No one wanted to talk about Nipsey’s gang affiliations or what Dolph was into, or the car Pop smoke stole. None of that justifies their murder obviously, but to shield that potentially ugly part of the story it it’s easier to just say they were killed over “jealously and hate”
You saying a bunch of nothing

What's killin' me is, this outpouring of outrage is almost NEVER shown/displayed when it's a civilian. Only when it's a rapper/entertainer (especially one that's well liked, which is usually only expressed after their demise). If he wasn't who he is, his demise, like that of regular folks who occupy and live in those areas wouldn't make a blip on da radar. Cause this isn't a rare occurrence. It's only when it's a rapper that folks take notice.

Some of y'all listen to mursic fulla content about takin', robbin' and stretchin' nikkas out but in this thread actin' so hurt and broken up about this. I see you.

LA nikkas funny lol… they just gonna charge more for “protection”

I never even thought about the consequences of this shyt. Like, if you're an LA goon you can make some money off what is essentially a protection racket for out of towners.

So PNB's murder was good for business basically.

This isn't happening to celebrity whites or Hispanics....and it's not happening to regular whites or Hispanics

You're trying to make it sound regular but it's not

This may not be regular to you but it is a regular occurrence outside. And at this point, it's a regular thing for street rappers, too...

RIP and all that but the fact of the matter is:

1. Dude was a street rapper.

2. He was out of town flossing.

1 or 2 by themselves would be enough, let alone both at the same time.

And no, I don't think this would happen to some random ass celebrity. Or De La Soul, for that matter.

Anybody can get got anywhere but this shyt is heavily lop sided in favor of happening to street rappers, especially street rappers OT.

Fred.

100%...

Gang CULTURE. Culture is the new name for criminality?

The gang culture in LA is different though. It isn't the same as even being elsewhere in California, let alone anywhere else. Chicago is the only place here that is comparable to it. So yes, there is a "culture" and cats be thinking because they have Bloods and Crips where they from that they can relate to Bloods and Crips in Los Angeles...

People think because they make surface-level relationships with people from LA that they can blend in with the locals...

They can't, if you don't grow up here you're gonna easily stand out and the people you may be cool with is all good, but those people don't have authority over the entire city. The Bloods and Crips where you're from are not Los Angeles Bloods and Crips, it is DIFFERENT there and that's the biggest miss that people and places that adopted The Culture over time can't possibly understand unless you've spent time in LA...

I lived in LA as a little boy, came back several times as an adult. I became a gangbanger but notobvious in LA, I made connections but I didn't grow up in THAT culture, and it's . It's just different out there bruh...

Now I'll say this, the streets are the streets, and if you ran the streets in your hometown, you're normally able to adapt to other places---->sometimes that adaptation requires you being less loud than you were at home, knowing when to speak and on what topics and where to go and all that. You can handle street situations if you were in street situations, in most cases...

But the GANGBANGING politics are not the same as where you're from, and LA and Chi are the only major cities where the gang politics are generations deep AND dictate most of the street politics...

Great Post.

Though, I hate seeing that last statement whenever a rapper is murdered.

"This happens daily, but you only care now because it's a successful artist."

Why is that always used against us?

We don't know random breh 232423, who died randomly. Sure they look exactly like us, but they're no actual connection.

People have connections with all these guys being murdered. That's the power of music; they create moments and memories that impact people's lives that will stay with these people for their entire lives.

Might not be us specifically, but there are a bunch of people who listened to PnB Rock heavily; his come-up probably defined their high school years, or it probably got them through rough times.

These guys are also supposed to represent success for people who don't often receive success. It's a sign, a symbol that shows anyone can do it, especially people that look like us.

So it's annoying as fukk when people choose the jealous route and want to take the man's life over something materialistic when he represented something bigger.

No one wants to hear that "better follow the rules" shyt for criminals who don't even follow rules to begin with.

Shame the nikkas pulling the trigger not the successful artist

Because yall belabor race about it, is why it matters. If black men hurting black celebs you're into is important, then black men hurting black people period should bother you...

Just my opinion brodie...

Exactly. All other things considered equal (resources, money, education, opportunity) cacs, asians, latino communities are no different from us. The biggest difference is our music puts it out there and celebrates it AND historically this shyt has been done to us on purpose (segregation, redlining, white flight etc) to put us in this bad situation.

Cacs in Appalachia or San Bernardino doing this same shyt are even worse...because they've largely chose to do this shyt to themselves.

💯...

Maino is one of those dudes that something like a ten year bid actually saved his life. No way he wouldn’t have ran into something if he was in the streets during his wild days

Yeah prison saved him...
