Take a look at the teams that have won the title in the last 20 years, the only team I can think of that had an all star caliber PG is the Spurs... The Celtics won it with Rondo in his 2nd year, i don't think he was an all star yet

Outside of Parker and Rondo, most point guards been :scusthov:

Why is this? Should teams not worry about having a top tier PG?

Ya know i was going to 1 shot this, but I won't; you're a good guy 2pws.

Outside of teams with LEBRON, KOBE or JORDAN, who has won a title WITHOUT a top-tier PG?

Pistons - Billups
Spurs - Parker
Celtics - Rondo
Mavs - Kidd
Rockets - Kenny Smith*
Pistons - Isiah
Lakers - Magic Johnson
Celtics - Dennis Johnson
Sixers - Mo cheeks

So, unless you have JORDAN, LEBRON, or KOBE..with ONE exception, it is important to have a top tier PG in order to succeed in the NBA...and EVEN THEN you need a servicable PG who can make 3s and is willing to take a backseat to your SG/SF who dominates the ball

Magic, Dennis Johnson, Mo Cheeks, Isaiah were all 20+ years ago

You can't say outside of the teams with Lebron, Kobe and MJ, their teams make up the majority of the sample size (teams to win a title in the last 20 years)

How many great PGs did they beat in their title runs? Many

Jason Kidd was at the end of his career when he won a title, Kenny Smith was a role player, neither were all stars at the time

you're a good guy 2pws.

Appreciate it

but those teams had kobe bryant, lebron james and michael jordan

just saying.

look at the teams in the playoffs

in the west houston and dallas are the only teams with a avg pg

yea and chances are none of the teams in the west are going to win the title

Like other have already said, these arguments always seem to overlook the fact that the Jordan, Kobe, & Lebron have won 13 out of the last 20 championships.

As dominant as Shaq was he always needed elite guard play to win. Duncan too, but not as obvious.

Ben was the best player. That team won cause of that historic defense and he was the anchor.

Yea I agree, that's why I said maybe Chauncey but you're right, can't think of a team to win the title who's best player was their PG in the last 20 years

I didn't overlook that, that actually further proves the point on point guards being overrated considering none of the players you named were PGs
