 dont think this a good comparison AT ALL

Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Terrell Owens, Andre Reed, Calvin Johnson, Tim Brown, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald are all ringless. All at one time could claim to be one of the best if not the best at their position. Great regular season statistics that haven't necessarily translated to ultimate team success. They are no different than Marbury, Rose, Westbrook, CP3, AI, Tim Hardaway, Prime GP, Steve Nash, Deron Williams , Kevin Johnson etc.

Great regular season impact and accolades but not really determining the outcome of championships in a positive manner. PG and WR are both glorified positions that get a lot of recognition but are rarely the cause behind winning.

When was the last time the best WR in the league was apart of the Super Bowl winning team? When was the last time the best PG was apart of the championship winning team.

I didn't overlook that, that actually further proves the point on point guards being overrated considering none of the players you named were PGs

MJ
Kobe
Lebron
Shaq
Duncan

Are once in a generation talents. Like I said, they skew the data in favor of their positions.

I'm too lazy to go through every team that made it to a Finals or conference finals, but if you did, you'd see the impact that the Stocktons, Jason Kidds and Gary Payton's had on making year in year out championship caliber teams. A lot of which, not to downplay the greatness of Jordan, Kobe, & Bron, only lost because they couldn't get the refs to blow their whistles when it mattered. That's a whole other discussion though, about superstar calls and NBA rule changes to create a certain style of play.

Take a look at the teams that have won the title in the last 20 years, the only team I can think of that had an all star caliber PG is the Spurs... The Celtics won it with Rondo in his 2nd year, i don't think he was an all star yet

Outside of Parker and Rondo, most point guards been :scusthov:

Why is this? Should teams not worry about having a top tier PG?
I agree.I think you need a serviceable PG, but youre rarely ever gonna win with a point being your best player. Plus most of them have no real versatility defensively.

No, I think a All-Star PG is a bit overstated--you can win without one. But, if the Heat's had Stephen Curry or Ty Lawson they'd go 73-9.

Overrated far as needing an elite PG to win a ship? Then yes.

But PG position in the NBA is EASILY the deepest and most talented position in the NBA BY FAR
