A new YouTube account is pushing local police agencies to reconsider their use of body-mounted cameras. Poulsbo Police have been wearing body cameras for about a year, and the department says the results have been good. But last month reality hit, in the form of a new YouTube user website, set up by someone under the name, "Police Video Requests." The profile says it posts dash and body cam videos received after public records requests to Washington state police departments. "They're just using it to post on the internet," said Chief Townsend, "and I suspect it's for commercial purposes." In September, "Police Video Requests" anonymously asked Poulsbo PD for every second of body cam video it has ever recorded. The department figures it will take three years to fill that request. And Chief Townsend believes it is a huge privacy concern, as officers often see people on their worst days. "People with mental illness, people in domestic violence situations; do we really want to have to put that video out on YouTube for people? I think that's pushing it a little bit," he said.

Note: Threatening to sue or alluding to any kind of legal action when contacting us will not yield favorable results. Such emails are promptly deleted. It is really so much easier to approach politely.

These are the most common questions people seem to ask:

  • Will you remove a mugshot?
    While we are not under any obligation to do so, we will remove information the charges resulted in nolle prosequi or a not guilty verdict. We typically remove stuff if it was a silly non-crime violation like public intoxication/dog leash/traffic ticket failure to appear kind of thing. Please email your name and scanned paperwork (and/or a case ID number) to the email address listed below. If an individual is deceased, we will also remove their information. And often, a very simple polite email will go a long way regardless of status.

    Due to an an ever-increasing and overwhelming volume of requests, it will take over 4 weeks before we are able to read your email. Sending multiple emails day after day will not hasten the process, it will simply slow down the process for you and everyone else.
    Also note: it is helpful if you actually include the person's name AS IT APPEARS on our website. Otherwise, the response time will be even longer, since we would have no clue who you are referencing.
    Earliest estimated day when we would be able to read your email: Friday Dec 12th
  • I want a mugshot deleted immediately. Can I pay you to expedite the process?
    We are asked this several times a day and unfortunately it is not an option. There are numerous 3rd party "Mugshot Removal" companies that claim that they can delete information from our sites, but they simply charge you for what you could do for free (see above) and you still end up waiting a month for something to get done. That said, the only companies that would have any success in removing a mugshot within 24 hours are MugshotRemovalCompany.com and InternetReputation.com.

    Google recommends using an Internet reputation repair company to remove unwanted content from appearing in the search engines, below is a company that advertises with us who specializes in online reputation repair for removing unwanted content from the Internet - InternetReputation.com (The above link is a paid advertiser of ours )
  • How far back do the mugshots go?
    That depends on the website. Most are no older than 2010.
  • Can you tell me more about the person in the mugshot, or how I go about contacting them?
    Probably not. All information is public record. The data comes from the Sheriff's office. That would be the best place to start.
  • My Friend/Spouse/Relative/Enemy was arrested. Why are they not on the website?
    We can't really tell you, because we don't really know. We publish whatever data is released by the sheriff department. Sometimes our software might miss something, sometimes the sheriff's office doesn't release the data and sometimes a profile has been manually removed.
  • Why are some of the dates weird?
    A bug in the system during early additions. The bug has been fixed, but we have not retro-actively fixed the inaccurate dates.
  • Why are the thumbnails squishy and pictures blurry?
    This has to do with the image files released by the sheriff - we can not control their quality.
  • It would be fun to make comments about people. Why don't you have that function?
    Because it is not fair to the arrestee. Otherwise, we would have every dimwit with a torch and a pitchfork speculating on guilt while having zero facts. It opens up room for libelous rancor with zero responsibility. For those who are innocent, it only hurts them more. We will not facilitate mob mentality.
  • Are you associated with the Sheriff's office?
    We have absolutely no association with any government agency. We re-publish public data.

So, this site posts things that are public record, then get ad dollars on top of that. But you can work with internetreputation.com to have it removed. (they charge btw). Mugshots.com simply says you can't remove your picture. BUT, UnpublishArrest.com can remove you from mugshots.com for anywhere between 400 and 1700 dollars.

Basically.

Body cams for all of em and laws to protect privacy to go along with it. They should be wearing the cams at all times when on patrol.

It will help us weed out the bad cops :sas1:

they legally have to and you want to be able to force them to, here's why...
Let's say the Brown shooting was caught on a police body cam video, but the police started saying "we do not release these videos to the public..."

Basically any public records are just that, public, and i'd rather a few people get caught in a bad moment vs crooked ass cops continue to get away with their shyt.

But surely those sites who profit from mugshots and video cams should be somewhat policed, right?

This ain't TMZ getting the footage themselves, surely taking it from mugshots.com shouldn't cost anything and be done rather quickly, that's really shady IMO.
Body cams should be a requirement no doubt, but I shouldn't be able to create a web page full of mugshots & cams, then run ads off of it for my own benefit, then charge to have the shyt removed??
