Virginia Beach police confirm a police K-9 bit an 11-year-old boy while the department was searching for a robbery suspect Monday.
After a man robbed the Wells Fargo bank on Independence Boulevard Monday morning, detectives developed a lead that the suspect might be at the America’s Best Value Inn on Northampton Boulevard, according to Public Affairs Officer James Cason.
Officers, detectives and a K-9 unit went to the motel and staged to make an arrest. As the K-9 team was moving into position, the child “emerged from a corridor of the motel and ran into the K-9 dog,” according to a VBPD release.
Cason said the dog reacted by biting the boy. He said officers immediately administered first aid and stayed with the child and his mother until medics arrived.
The robbery suspect was arrested about ten minutes later in the motel parking lot.
