@Harry B charts do not count merch bundles like the Travis Scott thing any more. They haven't for a while.

Travis Scott’s JackBoys Hit No. 1 Before New Bundling Rule Begins (Published 2020)

The "merch" for Twice was part of the CD. It wasn't, you buy the merch and get the CD "free" Which is what Travis Scott did. People paid like $23 for a CD + some random shyt with Twice.

Also none of this explains Olivia Rodrigo.

Fred.
Yea but you had to buy the cd to get the merch. These kids are buying posters and other collector items, their computers, if they even use them, don’t even have cds nowadays.

I have siblings and nieces and nephews.

As far as Rodrigo goes that was most likely all digital

Kinda odd how other genres have no problem still moving physical units. For rap it's like, 75-90% stream vs 10-25% physical.

Fred.
Cause they buy vinyls on some stan shyt

Yeah I find it odd that physical albums are bought at all, not the other way around …The only device I even own that has a disc drive is a ps5 and an old ass laptop I haven’t turned on in like a year…shyt is very obviously a dead medium…what the fukk kinda weirdo is buying a physical copy of music nowadays? Like I can only imagine some 50 year old dressed like Spice Adam’s “old head” character with a big ass Bluetooth in their ear and some sandals walking into a, shyt I deadass don’t know where CDs are sold now…Best Buy still got them?

I mean all that is cool but it doesn't change the fact that other genres are moving more physical copies than rappers. :mjlol:

Not even sure what the disagreement is about at this point.

And as far as Olivia Rodrigo, probably not. As @Rozay Oro said several places have "limited edition" vinyl versions of the album.

They still count merch units you just have to ship it the same week

You cats keep using the term "merch" which was what Travis Scott did. Buy a hoodie, get the album "free".

Twice sold a CD with merch included (poster, pics, etc.) with it. It's apples and oranges.

Vinyl has been outselling CDs for a while. And has made a resurgence among younger people, which is how random ass pop acts like Twice, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift are doing so much in physical sales.

Don't see how it's not.

Rap seems to be the only genre where fans don't care about owning a physical copy.

Age has nothing to do with it either, Olivia Rodrigo is younger than every rapper on the list and her demographic is mostly teens.

Yet she still moved far more physical copies than any rapper. Hell, Twice is 22-25 and damn near all their copies were physical.

So yeah....it's weird.

Fred.
Rap fans value music the least because we get so much of it and we're used to getting it for free.

The bundles turned into bullshyt once Vlone started manipulating it.

All that stupid vlone shyt resells for double the price so artists started exploiting it and doing vlone bundles to move units. shyt was carrying bums like Nav to 100k.. Juice Wrld.. shyt I think even The Weeknd did it

and because there’s an after market for that brand, nikkas were out here buying 30 tees to flip and it was translating into inflated album sales

Same with Travis Scott. nikkas were buying his tees in bulk to flip, and ended up inflating the fukk out of his album sales
