What other demographic of Black people are more easily recognized globally than rappers? Not athletes. Black athletes dominate American football and basketball. And while basketball is popular in some European and China, it’s not popular globally. Globally, the world doesn’t fk with the sports that Black Americans dominate. So who would be the next most visible demographic on a GLOBAL scale, Black actors? Wrong. The world may recognize Will Smith, but he is but one person. The main visibility, the main representation we have on a GLOBAL scale, unfortunately, is rappers. Period. That’s who the whole world tries to emulate when copying off Black American culture, it’s rappers.
