It’s worthless to write an obituary of him that doesn’t mention that he spent the last years of his life standing with Palestinians in Gaza and speaking out against Israel massacring them. Would be strange to write about how radical he was in that position while ignoring that.

i grew up going to catholic mass with the mexican kids. i was genuinely sad he died
no he wasnt perfect and yes the church is fukked up but he played his role in history in trying to make the church more progressive. we will see how his successor handles it
im not gonna sit here and defend the church but i liked him as a human being.

I wouldn't say rooting for his death, but there were some Catholics who weren't really fukking with him since he was more "liberal" on social issues than previous Pope's.
