Hitting your children (this was highly excessive in my opinion) has an air of confirmation bias to it. I know plenty of people who were hit who did well in life, and plenty of people who were hit who turned out like absolute shyt. Therefore, hitting is not some guaranteed action.

This might drive her further away. But you're right, I don't know how this man was before this video or what he did after. I still think he went too far. He was right to disciple her, but I don't know if this was the right away to do it.

Personally, I think his emotions got the better of him and I really can't blame him. Like I said earlier, I've seen too many kids go missing and wind-up dead just because their parents were either 'too strict' or, 'didn't care enough'.

He should have taken her home to discipline her, but after not knowing if she were alive or dead for three days, I can understand his reaction. It's very easy to critique his actions after the fact while being an observer.

We'd like to think we would handle the situation differently, but I honestly have no idea what my actions would be were I in his shoes at that time.

I knew Quiana's parents. They took that girl everywhere, made sure she had everything. They didn't have the best, but they made sure she had what she needed. They bent over backwards to keep her and her brothers and sisters clothed, fed, sheltered, etc. Quiana wanted to 'hang out' past her curfew and her parents forbade her. The worst I'd seen her get disciplined is getting assigned extra chores and being grounded. They NEVER laid a hand on her.

As far as we know, the night she snuck out was the ONLY time she'd ever done something like that. That's the story we got from her friends and the kids who were at the party the night she was shot.

You can be the absolute BEST parent in the world, but kids are going to be kids.

In another 6 weeks, we're going to march through town for the 22nd year and hope someone comes forward with information on who killed her.
