i remember years ago walking into a mall one day...it was the F.Y.E record store i recall one of the few that still had vinyl and hearing this over the P.A system...

asking the dude..WTF IS THAT?!?! :damn:

he responded :youngsabo: Portishead

i instantly bought that LP "Dummy" and fell in love with it :noah:

introduced it to a producer friend of mine and he said it changed his whole perspective on sound

All three of their albums are great. Top notch production. So many niche genres of music make comebacks these days...bring back trip hop!


Their lead singer did a solo album that's really good. Acoustic unlike the Portishead stuff, but it's pretty dark with haunting vocals. Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man - Out Of Season.

yeah she was dope...melancholy voice sounded so good over those dark beats

i was mostly a fan of DJ ANDY SMITH though...who always said his influnce was DJ Premier you can hear it...

I remember being deployed and a white kid put me on. He actually taught me how to use Ableton and FL Studio. I immediately started outshining him cuz my chops had that flava and my drums had that bop. He was on some Euro shyt that didn't resonate with folks.
