This.
Portishead, tricky and Massive Attack were forging a new path.
Whatever they were smoking in Bristol at that time was different.

Massive Attack's Blue Lines album was good too. Esthero's Breath From Another, da Maxinquaye album, Sneaker Pimps' 6 Underground, some of my favorite deep house albums. shyt to vibe to, especially w/these funky ass heauxs

i remember walking into a mall one day...it was the F.Y.E record store i recall one of the few that still had vinyl and hearing this over the P.A system...

asking the dude..WTF IS THAT?!?! :damn:

he responded :youngsabo: Portishead

i instantly bought that LP "Dummy" and fell in love with it :noah:

introduced it to a producer friend of mine and he said it changed his whole perspective on sound

I had almost exactly the same experience. It was at Crown Center in KCMO....I was walking by a Musicland store and heard "Only You" playing over the speakers, immediately went in and asked who/what genre that was.

Their first two albums are classic....their third one is cool but I prefer the first two because they sound like hip-hop, beat-wise. The third one mostly moved away from samples and scratching.

They need to drop some new shyt, that last album was 10 years ago.
