The meeting was held in January at the NBA offices in New York. It was the former Minister and Senator Michael Fortier, a lawyer and banker, and Kevin Gilmore, Executive Vice President of the Montreal Canadiens and right arm Geoff Molson who found themselves in the office of Mr. Silver.

Gilmore wanted to assure the Commissioner that the Canadiens would welcome a team in his building. Gilmore was the Chief Negotiator for the construction of the basketball arena for the Beijing Games. He worked closely with Adam Silver.

Michael Fortier confirmed the information collected in the last days. But he insisted once again that the Commissioner Adam Silver was clear: “There is no team available and no expansion for,” said Mr. Fortier.

“We are aware that this is only a first signal sent by Montrealers. But we must also understand that we must start somewhere. Mayor Denis Coderre is aware of these first steps and encourages us. The metropolitan Montreal is a market of more than three million inhabitants. I am convinced that Montreal can sustain a hockey team, a baseball team and a basketball team without harming other already installed, “added Mr. Fortier.

Figured if NBA wanted to put another team in Canada again Vancouver would get another chance :manny: Thoughts on this possibility?

None of these CDN owners are going to put down literally a billion dollars, they will ask for public help and well good luck with how broke the provincial governments are.

Good luck any party going behind allocating funds to a sports team when they can't even pay teachers and nurses

You'd see another LA/NY team before Montreal brehs :comeon:

Aint no high-profile NBA or MLB athlete going to play in a cold ass canadian market where FRENCH is the dominant language :dead: (if Montreal ever receives a MLB or NBA franchise)

If Toronto, the fourth largest metropolitan area in North America, with a much more better economy than Montreal, cant even attract average to decent free agents, imagine Montreal, who is a city 2x smaller and with 2x less people ? With the local birthrate in the Montreal metropolitan area- one of the lowest in Canada? I cant see mid-40s cacs (the dominant demographic group in the mtl area) going to Bell center for NBA :laff: Most people going there would be younger people, children of black or southeast asian immigrants. :francis: And young people dont have enough buying power to be season ticket holders and regular attendees. And the corporate support for NBA team here would be difficult to find.

Montreal is a city run down, broke and poor infrastructure. The buying power of the average quebecer is not that great. A lot of broke ass people in Quebec. Average Quebec resident is 42 :flabbynsick:

Quebec depends largely of Ontario/Alberta's money (Federal Equalization payments)

And people dont give a fukk about anything but hockey there, they only fukk with Montreal Canadiens(NHL) and one-time sports event like preseason MLB/NBA games. Just to be seen at the place to be seen. Mtl is a events and Canadiens town, thats it.

They might like Impact (MLS) or Alouettes (bum ass cfl) if they ONLY win their championship, otherwise bushes. Thats about it :manny:

Expos were struggling to put asses in the Stade Olympique back then, back in the day you could get easily get baseball mlb tickets for like $10 at the drugstore, and thats with baseball having deeper roots in the province than basketball. It aint going to work.

Wont work. Cant see middle aged french-canadian cacs supporting basketball there :mjpls:
