Uncertain grounds
he's got the gout...

Ive heard rumors of this but considering the subject of the information it leaves one to wonder. With this other information (in this thread) coming to my knowledge, it wouldnt surprise me if those reports of him simply being sick may be from his remaining loyalists to disguise true unrest and a possible coup. Any reputable sources confirming his sickness? The ones ive read have seemed to be pretty much hearsay or uncorroborated.

This is interesting and something to keep an eye on. I wasn't aware of the NK/SK meetings. I wouldn't hold my breath on NK becoming a "decent" country even after a coup but its more likely with Un out than with him in. It's certainly plausible because his assassinations were pretty clearly, albeit quietly, unpopular amongst many left. It was idiotic on Un's part, even aside from the moral point of view. The support he had largely stemmed from his father's supporters and his uncle's as well..via a royal family type feel. Regardless of the dismay that some of the elder's may have felt towards the young one getting the power, the remaining loyalty seemed to have precedent to some degree over the reluctance to accept him. He dishonored his father and his family by doing what he did and now it seems like some/most of the big-wigs are disowning him. By doing this foolish strategic move, he confirmed the doubts that those had in him in terms of him being too immature or lacking the seasoning for the job as well as violating moral codes seen as unacceptable by NK's standards. He signed his own death warrant, whether it be physical, political or both.

It could also be that these two are fearing for their own lives as being next on his list to go and left before they got clapped up rather than there being a significant movement against Un at the moment. Time will tell I suppose.

That's where my money is at his uncle was a very popular man and he killed him over rumors, that and it's been reported that there has been a huge famine going on in most of the country for the past six months

Contrary to what US media has said, North Korea has been engaging in industry and some amount of international trade. Maybe they feel with this young leader, they won't be able to take the next step and his execution of his uncle was the straw the camels back. After all, a NK firm did build one of the the largest modern statues in Senegal, that alone shows you they have the potential for good human capital. Of course being a hermit kingdom of sorts hurts and kills that human capital.

North Korea would adapt very quickly to a new regime and economic model. Like you said, they do have positives, including a high literacy rate.

At the same time, South Korea is probably sweating bullets. On the one hand, they want North Korea to become much more like them, but at the same time they can't really provide any funding without slowing down their own growth. The Chinese also need to keep their lap dog and buffer so I doubt they would let South Korea take on rebuilding North Korea if it were to happen.

The levels of shock of North Koreans if they are ever legally allowed to go into SK :gladbron: Talk about going into the future.

Can you please keep Poitier and Napoleon away from this thread so rational people can discuss this major issue? Napoleon has already managed to spam this thread within 15 seconds of it being created.

His insinuation that this is the CIA and not some internal dispute is perhaps the dumbest thing ever. There is no evidence to suggest that and why wouldn't they, if they had this omniscient power, do this 40 years ago?

When has the CIA ever truly had their hand revealed?

They embarrass other nations when it comes to covert operations. Literally. Every other nation leaves trails and some of them don't even hide it.

I was joking when I said it, but if it turned out to be true i'd call it a major victory.

and why not do it 40 years ago? because they didn't :heh:

What type of stupid question is that?
