Up 17k since then. Market has been on a tear.
Hmm, I went into scaredy cat mode years ago and moved all funds into a conservative portfolio.
The plus is I didn't take a bath and there was a small amount of growth. The minus is the riskier portfolios eventually rebounded.

Eh, gotta just ride the ups and downs breh. It's gonna be 25 years before I need this money. Gotta let it do what it do.

I'm up to 76k now. I don't have enough capacity for delayed gratification to come up from my 6% though.

That's good shyt. And in all honesty rate of return and time in the market matters more than contribution percentage. I just put a lot in because I hate paying taxes. :manny:

i met with Fidelity Investments at my job and the guy here said i should start one and be willing to give up 5k from the get go

but he was also talkin about investments in which i can see my money make money in a shorter timeframe

i know its good to have one...but is this really worth it? esp if you tryna make money right now?

IMO you have to do it. Can't count on social security and / or pension like our parents did. You should definitely have a 401(k) as well as an IRA and some real estate to retire comfortably.

As far as shorter timeframes I can't really speak to that. I'm all about long-term investing because that's where you really reap the benefit of compound interest. I'm sure there's ways to make it work but other posters could probably explain it better than I could.
