With VERY FEW exceptions, just about every last rapper that's out today is trash. Every rapper in the Top 20 is complete garbage, and ESPECIALLY like m'man @PhonZhi said, if they have "Lil" or "Young" or any variants thereof in their name, they are EXTRA trash.

E-40 being a gangsta ain't got shyt to do with why he's a legend. I mean if you think about that or are in that life style that can solidify him further but even if you don't like his "music" his "rap"...as in the things he says, how he says them and who he's influenced trump your musical preference.

He's also legendary for his entrepreneurship/ hustle, things that again...trump, or should trump your listening preferences. That doesn't mean rank him as the GOAT or higher than some other person you like more.

But seeing that you said you don't "get it"...pan out and look at the bigger picture. E-40 is responsible for all kinds of slangs, influenced all kinds of rappers and businessmen who make money off the music and other arenas.

The majority of internet nikkas that fix their lips to talk shyt about Bay Area hip hop are surface level fans of the regions they Stan at best. Generally they don't really know shyt about any specific hip hop scene because if they did they would already recognize game this is doubly true if you're originally from the Midwest/south/SoCal and talk about all Bay Area rap being wack... tristate nikkas get a pass because the majority of them didnt grow up on the pfunk scene.

That's cool, but Hip Hop is much more than music do your homework, it played the background at the inception for a reason, it's at the foreground now because it's the most easily reproduced/packaged..

It seems counter intuitive to de-prioritize the music but you gotta understand...giving nikkas the frame work for independent hustle, influencing "GOAT" rappers like Jay Z and whoever else made the music industry enough money to get mentioned on these coveted "lists" that people make is deeper than "music"...if you really love the music like that play an instrument (or not) but maybe THAT'S why you don't "get it"....people celebrate E-40 (and thus his music, whatever you think about it) for way more substantial reasons than the music he has for sale.
