To name a few

KRS1 is from the mid-80s and that era was his prime. The reason why he became trash was that he changed his style to The Teacher style because he didn't agree with the emerging Gangsta Rap from the likes of NWA.
Canibus was trash after the first album because the industry black balled him after going against Eminem and LL Cool J on top of that Wyclef no longer managed him so no one was there to curate his trash music anymore.
Keith Murray was dope in the early to mid-90s after this time he became a basehead and was in and out of rehab, effectively his career was over by then much like what DMX has done to himself now, Murray had done to himself in the 90s.
E-40 is semi-trash. I fukks with him heavy on those 2Pac songs as well as the two 2Pac was featured on his albums too. E-40 is booty I won't lie. Biggie even has an unreleased song with him from the Life After Death sessions.

I don't think you understand how to sift through an artist's back catalogues properly. Firstly, you are supposed to find the artist's prime era which is usually within 5 years unless it's 2Pac, 50 Cent, Nas, Jay-Z, DMX, Dr. Dre, Snoop and Rakim etc as they are the golden standards of Hip-Hop that people are most inspired by. Non A-List emcees from the 90s like the artists you named like KRS1, Keith Murray, E-40, Canibus have small windows of being dope. Also it has a lot to do with the times to get how the music would of affected you in that time it originally came out.
