Why would I give someone benefit of the doubt when the GOLDEN ERA GAVE THE BLUEPRINT ON HOW TO BE GREAT? Do you know what a GOLDEN ERA actually is?

Whats wrong with being stuck in the past? hip-hop is LITERALLY rooted in being stuck in the past. The past is where all the good shyt was happening. Parliament, Issac hayes, james brown. Being stuck in the past is how you find your essence to make something for the future.

If there is ONE guy to come through, I WOULD KNOW who that one guy is. I can hear something cool in some of these new guys like ASAP Rocky, Ferg, Koondrick, cole. but these guys are not the "One". They might get a spin.

I'm talking about being informed about what artists are doing now in the genre you claim to love. The best way to stay informed is to actually stay informed. If you're not informed about what's going on in the genre, your opinion is as useless as the new nikka who just wants to turn up.

I lived through, witnessed and took part of being in a GOLDEN ERA OF HIP-HOP.

As a person who LIVES HIP-HOP, I can say that His music is not worth my listening pleasure, without giving him a shot at all

after hearing random verses from dude, he doesnt make music that appeals to me, so there's no reason to go out of my way to tolerate something that I think is wack.

I get what you're saying. And I partly agree with you. we live in days and times where the artist is selling personality cult and not music. So you can know a ton about an artist and have no reason to check out the music to learn more.

But I also think you're walking a dangerous line. Hip hop is a highly literate, information based culture. Even in its retarded moments. If you're not informed, you lose touch. It's one thing to be informed about the music, you've checked it out, really tried to understand it, and said "nah, this is wack", and it's another thing entirely to be oblivious to the music ("I wont even be bothered with that! fukk that!".

For example... Live.Love.ASAP to me is the most interesting rap album I've heard since 2005. In fact, I've played it so much that it's in my top 10 favorite albums ever (Favorite - I'm not saying it's the best shyt ever. There are lots of better albums). It's like listening to the mellowness of Fantastic Vol 2 mixed with the eerie aggression of Cuban Linx/Liquid Swords. There's production on there I've never heard before in rap, and it's stunningly beautiful to me. I've been listening to rap for a fukking minute.

My love for the album wasn't instant. I had to wrap my head around the shyt. I knew there was something there, but it took a while. Then I got it.

Rap is changing. If you're not informed about what people are doing in the music and more importantly 'why' they're doing it, you'll lose touch.

Fair enough. For example, I've never heard a Big Sean album. and I never will.
a) because the dude is trashbags and
b) (this is the more important one) he's a singles artist. Not an album artist. Album artists attempt deeper material and their music tends to be more atmospheric. so you have to listen to the whole album to get the 'statement'. Singles artists are about partying and fluff. You'll hear the singles anyway. No one needs to dig through an entire album of garbage-ass fluff.

Drake is an album artist. Despite what it seems on the cover. And if people say "yo, these are the guys dropping great hip hop albums today", I'ma check them out. I may not listen to all of them, but I'll definitely check their best work out. Because there might be something unique about it. even if it's not done really well.

And to compare ANYTHING CURRENT to Fantastic vol 2 is blasphemy.

Bruh, Live.Love.ASAP is exactly like Fantastic Vol 2.
a) Both contain some of the best beats I've ever heard in my life
b) Both have a strong sense of atmosphere (which is crucial to making a classic album)
c) Both feature rappers that coast completely on their flows and charisma with filler rhymes.
d) Both have the producers as unsung heroes of the album. For Fantastic, it's Dilla. For LiveLoveASAP, it's Clams Casino.

I tried Take Care at least 6 times and couldn't get through it.... in 2012
