i took about a 3K loan on mine to pay for a month-long yoga teacher training retreat. it is paid off now and the money i make teaching yoga is a great second income. personally i don't give a fukk about retirement anymore and would really love to leave this job, roll my 401K into a roth IRA, then liquidate that if i could and use the money to start my own business.

:ehh:I like how you think, Steve.

Smart man. More money to grow.

Yea I figure I'd rather pay less taxes now, and I don't really need the money anyway. Plus once I have kids there's no way I'll be able to put away 15% so if I get that money growing now, it'll pay mad dividends (figuratively and literally) over the next 31 years.

Myself. fukk 12(1)!
What kind of company match is everyone getting? I get 4% match dollar for dollar. I have been thinking of increasing it to 5% to save more, since its pre taxed. And I still got at least 30 mos years before I can touch it.
My employer contributes 9% of my base pay (I don't have to match), then I have an addtional voluntary savings plan.

I have a ROTH through American Funds, this is what I'm in now:

Fundamental InvestorsANCFX

New Perspective FundANWPX

AMCAP FundAMCPX

New World FundNEWFX

My gains have been in the 18% range annually since things rebounded a few years ago.

Props man. It's between American Funds and Vanguard for me. Vanguard has more funds, but most are pretty expensive for me.

The Cosmos
TSP (federal government version of 401K) with a 5% match and a Roth IRA. Haven't touched either. I'll get a pension from the feds also.

For those without a ROTH IRA, use a target retirement fund.

We have the voluntary savings plan also and they started a Roth ira last year. i need to see the rate of returns for all the funds so far this year but can't seem to find them. i have all the high risk ones like large company and s&p 500. i could put more in and save on taxes like blvdbrawler said. seeing as how i also have no kids or a place of my own. only bad thing is working a low paying job compared to some of you ballers with careers, doesn't give me huge returns on the 401k, but every dollar counts.

Who is your retirement fund with? Mine is with Fidelity, and they provide us with both quarterly and yearly prospecti/reports.

JP Morgan, usually it says the month to date, year to date and everything. most funds are atleast 20% growth. better to use tree high risk ones now and be conservative when being retirement. i have a Roth with Fidelity but not much in it.
