You'd take the victory lap too if you guessed exactly what was going to happen and it came to fruition. He's not even partying on Jeter's failure, but the fact he fleeced him and the majority owner. They thought they could come in and do better simply by not being Loria/Samson and they've failed spectacularly so far. Worse record in the Majors since taking ownership. Listen, I'm Guillermo Mafia IV Life but this ain't the W a lot of folks are making it out to be. And the fact he tried to hold that COVID season up as some sort of accomplishment is reaching. Billy can't tell me that he had higher hopes for the next season based off of that year. And again, NOTHING was broken here. We've heard David explain EVERYTHING (minus the Jeter firing) that Billy was angry about.
Loria/Sampson fleeced Marlins fans and the city more if anything.
Jeter/Sherman have done better for the franchise tho lol. Theres actual respectable people who run the baseball side of things and Sherman isnt like Loria who will counter what his baseball people are saying, simply because he has a relationship with an agent or a player (sampson has shared countless stories of Loria just signing who he wants, counter to what his baseball peoply are saying). in the almost 20 years for the Loria/Sampson regime, what exactly did they accomplish? They "built" a stadium paid through mostly tax dollars. Besides 2003 (Again, that was not Loria/Sampsons team, Dombrosky/John Henry built that squad). All of their free agent signings/trades were flukes/downright awful (Carlos Delgado, Wei Yen Chen, Hee Sop Choi, Jose Reyes, Mark Buerhle, Heath Bell, Rafael Furcal, Saltalamacchia,). They were horrible with player relations/management (Jose Fernandez). They NEVER engaged with the community under Loria/Sampson, that has changed drastically under Sherman/Jeter. They actually have prospects and invested in their farm system. Jeter actually got more money than Sampson with the TV Deal (isnt sampson some master negotiator? Sampson also said there was no way hed get more money than him but jeter did) lol.
These are all things that perhaps most fans of the show know, but it seems that people that are mostly pro business side of things (which is odd because we are all sports fans) applaud Sampson, although he was shytty as a team president.
Since 2003 through 2017, The Marlins only had 5 winning seasons. Is that really an accomplishment?
