I think a lot of the Stugotz character came from the shipping container before they were on air personalities. Now they get to talk more and they want to get their shyt in so the Stugotz character is not what it use to be. He needs to be fed lines and jokes. Stu is probably like what’s the point. I’m rich and I don’t have to do this :manny:

With that said, the show today with Stugotz was good. When Dan isn’t rambling the show runs smotothe and is much funnier.
I also think the gimmick of "the sport show that makes a spoof out of radio sport shows" stopped being as effective because the advent of podcast and people taking shyt less seriously -or going full pro wrestling with it with First Take and its clones-, so Stu's character lost its initial appeal.

Stu hasn't been the "radio sports guy" in years if we are being honest, basically been the "lazy conman that does radio with us".

You add to the what you pointed out and it makes sense he doesn't give a fukk about being Stu anymore. Less people that want to make your job easier, all the money you would've ever dream of when you started on radio and being too old to be the butt of the joke every day of the week.

They might be cooked tbh. The co-founder of the company and the “co-star” of the show announced as leaving in the same week? During a contract year? :patrice:
It's kind of a given DK not renewing (or paying them waaay less). I just wonder who has the will and motivation to actually save the show from itself or if they are just too old at this point and just gonna ride the wave of what they've already established until it's all over.

Show had a good run, but they’d be better off lining up a victory lap and wrapping it up after the NFL season this fall. They’ve failed to successfully launch any new pods outside of PTFO, I think GBF was around before they started meadowlark? They’ve lost their diverse voices with Montgomery and co and the meadowlarkers, they lost the women on the main show, Stu is stealing his check at this point, their interviews suck, Cote as EP sucks, and the rest of the shipping container has lost a lot of their edge - they’re middle aged dads now, they don’t have the wit they had as mid 20 - early 30 somethings a decade plus ago

Yeah, this shyt is just about done. fukkery and jokes aside, I just hope that Dan is alright. He seems like a pretty codependent person, and his brother passing, his mentor dipping, Stugotz leaving, and his parents getting old all around the same time has to be more than he's equipped to handle.

If the Skipper news is strictly business related, I can see those Clay Travis / Boston types tee’ing off on Dan & this sort of ‘liberal’ media. Gonna be a talking point for Dan & Mike for a while.

If Meadowlark is winding down, all these weak spin-offs with make sense. I assumed Dan’s just been hanging on to the main show for the sake of the shipping container. Seems like he’s more suited for the occasional South Beach Session, writing, and pop in.

Hopefully we get some more Amin as A-chair instead of playing the heavy B chair/jokes role as Gotz fades out.

Damn the reddit is in Shambles right now.

Crazy to look back through this thread and see how far we've come.

The show is cooked. Dan, with no sense of irony, hated the constructs of ESPN bc it was too "corporate" however, needed the structure that doing radio on ESPN provided.

Stugotz, never wanted to leave ESPN and only wanted do a radio show, checked out understandably and his "character" was diminished because Dan wanted to put members of the shipping container as the focal point.

Mike stepped back from EP, and Dan's brother died.

It's like watching a really bad car wreck play out in slow motion.

I appreciate they're still doing show around it:

Although they'll address it this week, I think to be in a position to keep the show considering streamers aren't paying what they were at the advent of the format, they had to restructure some top salaries, and that included Skipper at the top and Stu as #2 behind Dan despite his long absences. I suspect the couple months plus of Stu being out plus him missing a GBF specific draft event he was billed for was all part of the process of what they were re-/negotiating and we'll never know that until the back half of the oral history hits in 2035 (but we know people have wanted him gone the entire Meadowlark run) but a Stugotz-less version of the show has basically been established at this point.

It's all up in the air, but the cards look to fall in some pretty familiar places barring other surprises.

Lebatard Archives on YouTube

We can always run back the classics :banderas:

But this iteration of the show is absolutely positively finished and like you said has been on fumes for quite some time

Dan has also devolved into a mess of a host to the point where most listeners rejoice when he’s gone for a week or so

Stu has been so uninvolved with the show that nothing really changes on that end

It’s over
