Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
The poverty rate grew in 30% of counties between 2016 and 2018, according to a Stateline analysis of U.S. Census Bureau county estimates released this month. The poverty rate is the percentage of people in households earning less than the poverty threshold, currently $25,750 for a family of four.

While the overall poverty rate dropped between 2016 and 2018, from 13% to 12%, states varied widely. In New Jersey and Rhode Island, the poverty rate grew in only one county, compared with 83 in Texas.

I’m not that surprised, I know you can’t be either , I mean we’ve been reading that the vast vast majority of wealth is still going to the top

Down 1%:ehh:
I was expecting an increase based on a lot of today’s rhetoric.
a so called 1% decrease has you crowing. although to be fair to your guy trump, 2016 wasn't his year and 2018 is really the first year after he enacted things like tax cut, etc and made change.

Income and Poverty in the United States: 2018
The official poverty rate in 2018 was 11.8 percent, down 0.5 percentage points from 12.3 percent in 2017. This is the fourth consecutive annual decline in poverty. Since 2014, the poverty rate has fallen 3.0 percentage points, from 14.8 percent to 11.8 percent.

so really it's 0.5% with the awesome tax cut and it looks like we've been trending this way before him, so that doesn't say much for right wing policy putting us on a more prosperous path of faster growth blah blah. looks like we increased the national debt so that rich people could get tax breaks and GDP still grow at what is suppose to be a horrible 2%.

We are trending down.:obama:Thats all that matters.
The closer to zero the better.
Not sure why people are working so hard to find/spin a negative.

:ufdup:and for the record, you are the first one to mention the president or his policies in this thread.

because that's the only reason you posted the way you did. we were trending down for years and that wasn't all that mattered then. now it's apparently just different though.

The poverty threshold needs to be significantly raised. When was that shyt set? $25,750 for a family of four is living in a dump, getting federal assistance and subsisting on nothing but Ramen and tap water. :why:

Makes sense. Poverty calculations take into account the cost of rent.

How is poverty measured? – INSTITUTE FOR RESEARCH ON POVERTY – UW–Madison

In most places in the US where there's been job growth, rent increases have far outpaced wage increases.

So yes, you're more likely to be employed and probably earning more money - but an even higher share of your income goes to rent than before.
