It would have never came to that had Tariq never came into their life in the first place, so I get Cane’s point about it.
With that being said, a lot of their problems didn’t truly start until Cane tried killing Tariq at Stansfield and the Jabari murder.
The Cane/Dru beef is all on Lorenzo though as he pitted them both against each all their lives without realizing it.

So the Tejadas didn’t have their run ins with the law enforcement before Tariq came into the picture? Are you forgetting that Lorenzo was on lockdown when the show first started? Police already has database on Cane before Tariq came into the picture.
Just another example of an organization being led by a woman lacking accountability, word to Kevin Samuels. They’re all out here blaming Tariq as though each member of their family isn’t a colossal fukk up on their own merit.
Of course they did, but the police would have never connected the dots between the Tejada's and Tariq if he never came into the picture nor started moving drugs out of Stansfield. Granted Cane made things worse with trying to kill Tariq on campus and the Jabari murder, but that still would have never happened had Tariq never came into the picture even if he helped take them to another level.
