If it says it's recommended then do it. When I had my Grand Prix GTP it said "premium unleaded only". I mean you got to pay to play.

What year? My parents had a red '98 four-door and it was :whoo:

12 disc changer in the trunk had me like :blessed:

@Won Won, I had 2 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP's. Mine were 2000 model years. I had bought a brand new 4-door 2000 model in 1999 and then I traded it in and got a 2-door 2000 model in 2002. Since they was supercharged it said premium unleaded only. Any car that has forced induction (turbocharged or supercharged) or has a high compression ratio is gonna need that premium.

I have 2 premium guzzlers right now a volvo and a discovery..ive tried "saving" with 87 octane .. the volvo gets sluggish and kicks in the turbo more so it burns through more gas and the discovery gets noisy but performs the same so i use 89 in both now

I get 11mpg city. So that extra .10 cents does hurt the pocket a little. But like everyone says you gotta pay to play! And nothing less than 93 is touching my gas tank.

$0.10 more premium?
Here, the dDifference between 87 octane and 93 octane is like $0.40

My bad, I was referring to 89 vs 93 (or 91)

It still boggles my mind that people put straight 87 in their cars. :snoop: So I usually forget that it even exists.

What do you all think about top tier gas?

Top Tier Gasoline

Top Tier Detergent Gasoline

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in 1995, most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.

These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. That's something both drivers and automakers want to avoid.

Why TOP TIER

The intention of the TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline standards is to create a winning situation for gasoline retailers, auto manufacturers and drivers. Currently, many gasoline retailers provide fuels with lower-quality additive packages that can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These lower levels of additives can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness.

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers

Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.

It ain't worth the hassle in the long run to cheap out on it. I have a car that requires 93, gotta pay the cost to be the boss.

this the truth.

I told dude premium for my Audi once, and he put regular, shyt knocked for a minute until I used an Octane Booster treatment from an auto parts store. I was madd as hell.

Truth, When I bought my 335 my girl put 87 in i it. Ran like sh)t until I figured out what was going on and added some octane boost and topped off with 91

Unless you don't feel like the car is running like ass and everything is cool with it then you good. My girl uses regular in her Acura and it runs fine.
You obviously feel and notice the difference when you put 93 in the tank, but otherwise you good.

I used to drive my brother's car in high school and it required premium gas. One day I put silver in his car and the next day without me ever mentioning it he "reminded" me to always put gold in his car. Since then, any car I've owned or driven gets premium gas if thats whats recommended.
