No, the last two years he was getting locked up in one on one coverage.

Some teams double teamed him,but there were times he disappeared because he wasn't the same dude anymore.

Thats why this thread is about PRIME CJ, not recent CJ breh

Ab had 136 for 1834 last year. 10 TD's. 71% of his targets were caught. Cal's year that you quoted was 60%

I'm taking AB

The fukk are you comparing target percentage for. You realize who the QBs throwing to them are, right? Stafford's bum ass just threw it up in the air for Calvin to get it or for it be picked off and this is while he was being double or triple teamed every damn play. fukk outta here with targets that were caught. :camby:

That dude said you could put CJ on the Steelers right now and they'd beast.

I was just disagreeing.

That being said, i'd take AB just because he can play deep or underneath.

CJ was more of a deep guy.

Then again, I had hoped that CJ would take the year off, then come back and play with the Pats or someone. Bet he'd put up better numbers there than in DET.:ld:

A lot of people have said having Big Ben has helped AB. But no one has explained WHY he helps. So maybe this quick breakdown will help others understand why its not smart to think AB is better than prime CJ.

1. Big Ben helps with accurate oline adjustments to give himself more time to find an open reciever. Even when a blitz gets to him, hes strong enough to overcome the sack and make a great throw.

2. Big Ben knows how to correctly change a wr route to help them get open against the defensive coverage.

3. Ben is patient and accurate enough to throw a receiver open before the receiver has even finished his route.

4. Ben is better at reading the defense.

The QB is in control of EVERYTHING passing related. CJ was soo good, that matt stafford never had to really develop these qb intricacies needed to help the reciever out. Stafford could just throw the ball to CJ whether hes open or not and have a decent chance of completion. CJs talent hampered staffords growth and because of that, stafford has hampered CJs legacy.

This is one of those times where a player was literally to talented for their own good...

Watch film on Calvin and you will see the kinds of scheme they tried on that boy. Some are very fukkin good but he managed to escape it and get the catch.

AB is just fast and can escape a cb but aint on Calvin level.

In my life the two receivers who transcended top-notch defenses are Moss and Calvin. They are 1a and 1b in my opinion.
:stopitslime:1a 1b what? Freak wrs? Maybe. Best wideouts? :mjlol:

Calvin.
And it's really not even close.

6'5, 240, running a 4.35 forty.
Great hands.

What's crazy is the talent the Lions drafted in the mid 2000s.

2003: Charles Rodgers
2004: Roy Williams
2005: Mike Williams
2007: Calvin Johnson

Obviously they all didn't pan out. But if they did...

I mean from a raw talent perspective, that's unreal.

That's 40 time speed...not football speed...

In that cowboys game where he had 300 yards...he would have had 400 yards...but he somehow couldn't out run carr and claiborne and that was after he caught the ball in stride ahead of them...

Calvin's biggest talent was being 6 "5" and 240...he don't catch half the balls he did if he just not so much physically bigger than the people covering him cause his route running was so poor...

That's not skill...that's genetics...

So then why didn't all the other WR his size do what he did?

There's literally hundreds of 6'5 players and above who didn't do half of what he did
