To get into Harvard all you need is good grades and a high SAT score.

He was using a hyperbole to emphasize the point. It was more of a jab at the Harvard students then the prisoners.

I'd imagine the group that has 24 hours of free-time everyday would win against the group of teenagers with full time class loads, jobs, university committees and clubs, and relationships who are on the debate alongside the rest of their lives. It's not as much on intelligence as it is on preparation, and one group has a lot more time for preparation than the other.
