The business I run mails 5 - 50 packages a month.
I have to physically go to the post office because the postal workers are not consistently competent enough to understand how to process online services like Stamps.com or other digital services like the shipping I can print from Amazon.

If I use digital post services to print postage, my return rate and my damaged product rate increases. This is not a fault of Stamps.com but rather the postal service mishandling the packages processed via modern technology, or them not understanding how to do something and guessing and screwing up my mail order as opposed to basic postage and process which they are familiar with. Basically, its a training issue at this stage. In years to come it will perhaps be resolved.

I need to be able to in-person walk them through how to ship (domestic) process (media, so that it does not come into contact with perishables or chemicals) 'do not bend' (cause if you don't explicitly request an item stamped do not bend they are not liable for bending it, etc etc) oterwise they fk my package up.

If I label the package correctly at home and they are confused for whatever reason they will either guess or return it (making the shipment late) or the package will just magically disappear to save them the headache. Whatever the case, mailing it using digital postage means It will be mishandled or misfiled or mailed incorrectly at a 2 - 5% higher rate (a huge difference when mailing a 100s of items)

As a person thats at the post office 10x a month... The post office is terrible.

Or you can just go online and schedule a package pickup. Your carrier will pick up your package right from your doorstep scan the package and you can track the destinations online....

Thats what stamps.com is, only stamps.com is less time consuming and more efficient.

Its not a problem of coordination. I have a scale. I can weigh and issue the correct postage myself (Media mail is always tracked, by the way).
The issue is the likelyhood of the package to be mishandled increases when its mailed in a manner outside the norm.

Its a handling issue as well as a processing issue due to poorly trained employees.

While it obviously needs overhauled part of the problem is how many people it employs.

USPS is a job program for veterans and their families. It's never going to be privatized. When I worked there supervisors were making six figures and spent most of their day playing bid wisk/tunk/spades. I wasn't mad though, got plenty of family who have caked off of the post office :yeshrug:

Not everything should be for-profit. USPS is fine, even if it loses money. The DOD loses a shyt ton of money but no one blinks an eye.

Things like DOD, USPS, NASA and other agencies shouldn't be concerned with breaking even or making a profit.

Can someone explain to me why they should?
