Crazy thing is for 99% of people (excluding those with RARE medical conditions) it's changeable with moderate effort. Being fat signals to others that you don't care about your health, looks, you lack willpower, or that you're too lazy/unmotivated work on it. It says a lot about you but people would like you ignore it because we live in a society where everything is ok apparently.
