Man this guy is really fukkin dope. But part of me hates when someone samples a famous theme song and chops it beyond recognition. It kind of defeats the purpose. I realize it is showcasing skill and technical prowess, but as just a regular hip hop fan, I kinda wanna hear the sample play as is, looped with some bangin drums on it, maybe a bassline under it that matches the keys. I realize that takes less effort, but I like what sounds good, not what kind of skill it took to make it.
I love Cam'ron "357" with the Magnum PI shyt or "Horse & Carriage Remix" with Night Court. It brought back the feeling of being a little kid watching those TV shows, and then to hear it hooked up with hard drums on top if it was amazing. If the producers on those joints went all wild with unorthodox chops, stripping sounds down, re-arranging everything and playing all kinds of stuff on top it, I would've been sad... or maybe not have even recognized that they sampled one of my favorite old TV show theme songs. Again, I get that it takes more talent to do what Rob does... but something about it just don't feel right... it's too much chopping and re-constructing/re-working the entire sample. But for the sake of making these IG videos, I get it.. it's like a challenge to show what you can do. But real talk some of these beats would've actually sounded better if he just let the original melody ride and not chopped it up into something weird.
I really do think this dude makes fire beats so I ain't trying to be too harsh...
BUT another thing I will say... To producers who make these beat vids (not just Rob, he doesn't do it as bad).... Can y'all please stop with the corny scrunched up "mean face" when the beat drops and the stupid spastic head nods and jerks? It looks so fukkin stupid and cringe. There's no need for that. A lot of these producers do that shyt, it's almost like they all copy each other, as if that's the format to these vids... that you HAVE to do the herky jerky crazy nod.
