I always felt they were wayyyyy more important than the rapper. If the beat (and hook) is crazy you can almost say anything and the record is at least good lol.

Machine was getting crazy regardless but this beat made this shyt a new classic, this beat is f’n nuts

Its not a genre like EDM where the producer is the draw.......

The producer NEEDS the rapper in hip-hop.
Wasn't always like that...in the 80's it was more about the DJ/beat maker, the rapper was more so Pippen to the DJ's Jordan. The beat rocks the crowd, being honest, if that beat trash all the "Wave ya hands in the aiiiiir"'s in the world aint gonna save you on that stage. They need each other...I'm just saying musically, imo, producers have more to do with a record working than the rapper.

?? How so?
A lot of producers suffer from promises that's easily broken. One guy that was producing for A Boogie and Don Q said he would be cooking all day for them nikkas and promised he'll be their main producer. Gave that nikka a 5k advance and when A Boogie got hot they stopped using him and got some bigger name producers.

He did say Don still rocked with him but he just wanted to work with Boogie
