hardest shyt i'd ever heard at the time...those drums and chants had me like :ohhh:

when Tim switched to these type of snares, shyt sounded so damn futuristic in 2000:ohlawd:

that sample :ahh:....this the song that made me fukk with Nas...had to go back and run through his catalog after this

the way this beat knocks and changes throughout matched with :birdman: hardest verse ever imo....Fresh was great at adding sounds and riffs throughout the songs and stood out because most hip hop songs just stay the same or are built on loops....Fresh was decking out album cuts

i was obsessed with that synth at that comes at the end of each bar.. futuristic shyt back then

whatever that sound is that's panning throughout...another one that was on some lightyear shyt to me back then

and of course the song got played out...but the first time I heard those drums drop on nikkas In Paris was crazy

there are probably some more recent ones but these are the ones where I remember where I was when i heard them

The last beat I was impressed by or that blew me away was probably something from 2015. That was like the last year that production was consistently great IMO. The albums below all offered something that blew me away production wise:

To Pimp A Butterfly
Compton
If You're Reading This, It's Too Late
Dirty Sprite 2
Black Dollar/Black Market
Deeply Rooted

Buckeye Fever

Crazy that you mention the butterfly effect joint. It came on my spotify shuffle this week, and i had to put it on repeat. I like those "space/atmospheric" type productions.

:wow:

Black Dollar was special. That should've been the album.

In real time 4me - most Dialated Peoples production was a breath of fresh air
In retrospect - ild say Outcast 1st two albums
No IDs resurgence post 2010 was top notch as well

Yes it's old. But Jesus Christ Dre was on God mode.
He let the artists do their thing throughout the whole song. Every few bars there's a new melody or some short instrument doing it's thing. They all come in and out in a perfect arrangement. None of it crowds out the others. Never over powers the beat or Pac. George Clinton got to vocalize and add his own flavor. Listen to when Clinton says "Which way did he go" the horns there are :ohlawd:
The song doesn't have a standard chorus. Pac and them just come in hot and go till the song ends. Even Pacs cadence and flow lays perfectly on beat.

You can really tell the difference when you listen to a Dre impersonation like Scott Storch. His beats are similar but they are repetitive and don't have the legs Dre beats do. He finds a decent piano loop and sets it on repeat. Dre finds ways to keep the track varied.

Just :wow::wow::wow:

I wish Dre would not try to reinvent himself currently. Just get some artists and make dope ass music. It doesn't have to stand with Drake. It just needs to stand on its own.

I really could just make a whole thread of Ross and Curren$y instrumentals...
